Dur ing the course of his remarks he went thoroughly into the assessment system`, and -showed that Vespra and Sunnidale were as- . sessed too high as compared with Flos He also said that Sunnidale contributed ve | times as much to the County funds as Stav- lner and should have a representative. He also referred to the regulations governing the Poor House, which, he said, were made to favor the towns at the expense of the town ' g ships. If elected he promised to look into this `matter and endeavor to have it changed. He also expressed himself as a strong he- liever in making the public schools as ef cient as possible, and would do all in his power to prevent any clique from abolishing the Continuation Classes. The inspectorate of South Simcoe received in the neighbor- hood af $1200 in government grants. tor con- tinuation last, year. Why not North Sim- coe receive the same if encouragement were `given the teachers and trustees He said lhe wished to make those promises because, if elected, he could say I came here pledged to certain things and I must full my pledges. He said that although he was a member of the Independent Order of Fores- ters, in good standing, yet he did not appeal to the sensible electors on those grounds. This was a matter of business not sentiment, and if he had not the necessary integrity and ability to represent them, the fact of belonging to anv society would be of no avail at. the County Council Board . ,He, closed by asking the support of the electors on the grounds which he had clearly enun- ciated without any sentiment or sympathy, as this was a matter of business and nothing I IIIOPO.
