Your Commit- tee have ascertained that an aggregate on the local rolls exceeds the equalized assessment of last year, and have there- fore added a uniform rate of two per cent. to all the municipalities to com- ply with the requirements of the law. A slight addition was made to two municipalities on account of the more rapid increase in their valuation, while it was found necessary to make a small reduction in the case of four munici- palities which are apparently deterior- ating relatively in value. ' It is not the evil principle of the legislation to which these Detroit- Windsori capitalists object. They dread its evil effects upon their own comfort. They can understand that the stock of Canadian patience is about exhausted. They know full well. that if the ` Corliss Bill becomes a law, no Government in Canada can resist the demand for the enactment of Canadian legislation on similar lines. And when a Canadian Alien Labour Law is enacted and en- forced, there are hundreds of Detroiters now living on the American side, who will have to spend their nights as well as their days in Canada.
