The doctors had given him up. They said there was no help for him, and my dear fathbr longed for death as being the only certain relief from his sufferings. . One day i he saw in the Albany Journal an account of howia man by the name of Quant, living in Gal- way, Saratoga county, and who was afllicted like father with locomotor ataxia. had been very greatly beneted and `hoped for permanent cure from the use of Dr. Williams Pink Pills for Pale People. On learning that these pills could be had of the Dr. Williams Medicine Company, Brockville, Out, and Schenectady. and that thev were not expensive, my husband sent $2.50 for six. boxes of them. And what a blessing they have been ! Father has taken but four boxes of the Pink Pills. He is no longer conned to his bed, but is able to get up without assist- ance and with the aid only of a cane to walk about the house and all around out of doors. He hasa good hearty appetite, his food agrees with him, the pain in the back from which he suffered so long and so terribly has left him. He has no more creeping chills and he appears and says he feels like a new man. The doctors had pronounced his disease to be creeping paralysis and said he could not be cured. How glad we are that we heard about these wonderful Pink Pills,` and how thankful we are for what they have done for father. Indeed they have done won- ders, yes, even a miracle for him. Respectfully yours, Mas. WILLIAM J omssois. The above letter indicated a cure so re- markable as to be worthy of. the fullest investigation, and The Standard determ- ined to place the facts, if correctly stated, before the public for the benet of other sufferers. or P if unfounded, to let the public know it. With this end in view` a reporter was sent to Solsville with instruc- tions to give the facts of the case as he found them. With these instructions he went to Solsville and on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 1892, called upon Philander Hyde and learned from him and from his relatives and neighbors and friends the whole story of his sickness and his terrible suffering, of his having been given up by the doc- tors, and of his cure and rapid convales- cence by the use of Dr. Williams Pink `Pills for Pale People. It has been proved that the pumping of the air` into the wheels of these racing` machines helps not a little in making them go like the wind. The cause of the increased speed of ocean steamships, such an the Etruria and City of Peris, which had been severe- lytested manytimes before this season, is not easy to guess if it waanot favoring winds and smoother seas. It seems pretty certain, therefore, that the reason why 1892 can put on many airs: as the fasteat of years is wholly an airy one. all of which is very proper-,1 since speed con- tests are mostlyyopenait events. This is a fast year. The trotting re- cord, the pacing record, the bicycling record. and the ocean steamship record have allbbeen broken. Horses supposed to have seen their best days are` surpas- sing all former achievements, and men- who have been on the track for years are going faster than ever before. Event steamers built andjzhoroughly tried long ago havejin some instances made quicker runs across the Atlantic than in any previous season. As far as the harness horses and the yheelman are concerned the explanation of this all around im- provement is found, mainly if not al- together, in the use of pneumatic tires l\OI| .nan"s:1-an . Amp` Th 1--_' L_-_ III uvvnwuvvu U uuv IIIDSIIUW The theory of the formation of these iron sands is not unanimous. It is known, however, that many crystaline rocks con- tain magnetic and titanlfemus iron or ore interpersed in small grains; and crystals, and such rocks, when disintegrated, ' give rise to the biack sands which are abund- antly "found in alluvial gold diggings and elsewhere. Then, too, along the littoral of countries in which crystaline and erup- tive rocks abound, streaks of black sand, washed out by the action of the waves are frequently to be met with in suicient quantity to admit of their being employed as an ore of iron. This is the case along the north shore of the St. Lawrence. Iron Sande or New zealand. ' Attention is again called to the iron sands of New Zaaland, long so famous. by a recently-proposed process for treating such deposits by means of electricity, the result being as stated, steel of the finest quality. It appears that the iron sand found-` at Yaranaki, in that country, and that which is met with elsewhere is, with the exception that it contains another metal titanium, of the same composition as the magnetic iron ore which is met with insuch large quantities in Scandina- via, China, Siberia and some other local- ities, and like the last-named mineral, is attracted by the magnet.
