' E A report on sewerage recommending the building of sewers on Bayeld and Toronto Streets, and the appointment of Mr. Willis Chipmau as Civil Engineer in charge. gave rise to considerable discussion. The Mayor advised that before voting on this, report the Council should take into consideration the state of the town nances. He said that the town was now in debt $16,000. and to wipe out this decit and at the same time make provision for the running expenses of the town, a tax of 28 mills on the dollar would require to be levied. Leaving the debt unpaid 22 mills on the dollar would be sufficient. It was for the Council to say whether they should wipe out the debt at once by the high rate or leave the debt standing. He was in favor of the former.
