Last Saturday quite` a. large number of the youth of the rural districts were in town to take art in the spelling contest for the rizes o ered by Mr. J. A Strathy of the ank of Toronto. In attendance also were many parents and teachers. The words were read out to the competitors who were distributed in the different rooms. We will give the result of the contest next week. Tally Ho! On Monday afternoon there was a so called fox hunt on the bay by some of the Barrie sports A large number assembled to wit- ness it. Reynard was taken out on the ice in a box and at a. given signal the fox was let loose while the hounds which were in full cry, were held until the fox obtained a little the start when the dogs were let loose. The fox started for the south shore and nine dogs started in pursuit, the hunted animal dodg- ing and keeping ahead till within 200 yards of the shore it turned, when it was caught by V. Weaymouth's Grey hound. There is nothing in thv 3 sort of thing like the regular fox hunt in the open country.
