There are few persons caring anything for plants who do not have a calla lily. Many will have one in preference to any other plant. It is largely grown for winter owers, and is of the easiest culture. It is a native of the Cape of Good Hope, and was named after L. O. Richards, is French botanist, hence his botanical name--R.ich ardia ethiopica. It was first brought into England in 1731. The popular name, calla, was given to it by Pliny. The calla blooms during winter and spring, and is much used for Easter decorations, the owers usually being abundant about that time. It is sometimes called Easterlily and lily of the Nile. It needs rich. moist soil, plenty of water and light; and, although it does `well with little heat, the higher temperature it can have the better. It is often seen in aquaria, where it is grown in almost pure water. ' Alt..- AL- .d....L.. nu... AL-......L KIA...`-2.... VVHI-DUI`. .
