More Sidewalks Planned The village council are planning, if re-elected next year, to build more sidewalks; this time on the south side of the railway, connecting with the sidewalk at the Presbyterian church and running to the corner near the Angus cemetery, providing those liv- ing along this street will supply the gravel according to the amount of frontage thateach one has. To Enlarge Cemetery More land is required for the Angus cemetery. Two or three more acres will be added in the near future. The graveyard now consists of two acres and nearly all the plots are occupied. it is a great credit to some people i the way they take care of their plots. The graveyard, that is the newer part, looks like a garden of owers as seen . from the road. These, with the splen- |did monuments, make it well worth ' the observation of those who pass. I : Village Improvements ; 4 The 900 yards of concrete sidewalk 1; ;; A which will connect the central parts of the village with the community ,5 park is expected to be completed by ,1 the end of this week. It, along with E the hundred maple trees planted lzy I the Forestry Dept., will make a con- *siderable improvement along King : street, which runs directly west from i the community park to the centre of the village. The new street which : runs north and south in front of the park is considered by many as one of the prettiest streets in the village. . Visitor Praises Horticulturist I The horticultural meeting which was held in the forestry shed last Friday evening was a marked success. The I people of Angus and others from the country nearby were delighted with Henry J. Moore's talk and pictures. About four times as many turned out this time as compared with Mr. Moore's first visit here. Mr. Moore gave the people great praise for the quick progress they had made and | I I Roy Mr.-Kinnon had a narrow escape `from a collision with a train when motoring to New Lowell one eve` i.ig last week. Mr. McKinnon Was travel- ling west towards the village and was watching a freight train on his right which was moving slowly into the siding which is just above he New Lowell station. When Mr. cKinnon thought that it was safe to cross ne stepped on the gas and at the same time noticed the passenger train ap- proaching on his left. At this point the train and the car were both about 30 feet from the crossing. He forcibly applied his brakes and was success- ful in stopping to allow a close clear- ance-too close for comfort. This proves the great importance of hav- .ng good brakes, also the necessity of wan xuuuwcu uy G UGLAUU V\'11.l\.11.l u:5uu.- I ed in the young people returning home happy but tired. But the village council thinks that this is a good way to make car driv- ers observe the speed limit. There are a number of dangerous corners in the village and there are a `good many children crossing to and fro on the streets. So, with large number of cars that pass through the village, per- haps it is Just as well that the roads are a little rough. Anyway the village cannot tfuild sidewalks and x roads all in the same-year with a tax rate of only eight mills.
