The body was brought to Barrie yes- terday morning and interment made at the Union Cemetery. ,,-, ,-. __. ..._--.----- | At the advanced age of 89 years` Mrs. Strathy, widow of the late H. H. Strathy, K.C., passed away in Tor- onto, on Monday, Dec. 31, 1928. When she was about three years old her father, Rev. S. B. Ardagh and his wife, Martha Anderson. came with their children, five daughters and two sons, from Waterford, Ireland. Mr. Ardagh was sent as a missionary by 4 the Society for the Propagation of the _ Gospel in Canada and located at Shanty Bay where his labors covered a very extended parish. He was first ` rector of Barrie, but continued to live f at the parsonage at Shanty Bay until - his death in 1869. The parsonage w ` ` noted for its open hospitality, an ' many new settlers received help and . encouragement. Mrs. Strathy's first : husband was Capt. E. C. C. Foster. 1 Most of her life was spent in Barrie but shortly after the death of Mr. ` Strathy she moved to -Toronto and 1 continued to reside there. Mrs. Strathy : was of an exceedingly charitable and kind disposition, deeply interested and active in missions and other good works. A family of five survive, viz., Gerard B. Strathy, Mrs. George 1. ELIZA JANE CAIN (Stayner Sun) An old resident of Stayner passed away on December 22nd, 1928, in the person of Mrs. Eliza Jane Cain. at the age of 74 years. Mrs. Cain whose maiden name was Eliza Jane Roe, was born in the township of Montague, Lanark county, Ont., and came to Ed- envale with her parents while quite young. In 1877 she was married to William Cain who predeceased her 36 years ago. After their marriage they resided in Minesing for two years then moved to a farm in Sunnidale, where they lived for a few years. They moved to Stayner about 40 years ago. . Hunter, 159 Redpath Avenue, and grandson of Mrs. Fletcher, 629 Huron Street, and of the late Robert `Esten Fletcher, J. P., of Roselawn, Barrie, at one time Warden of Simcoe County. For some years Mr. Hunter was asso- ciated with the Canadian Bank of Commerce and the Standard Bank, but for the last three years was on the executive staff of D. S. Paterson & Co. He was an Anglican. a member , of Lodge of Perfection, York Lodge A.F. & A.M., and an Orangeman. Forseveral months she had not been in the best. of health and when she took the flu it developed into pneumonia which her weakened constitution was unable to withstand. Cousins. ` Mrs. Quantz, whose maiden name was Adeline Marsh, was born at Rich- mond Hili and lived there until 49 years ago when she went to reside on Con. 11, Innisl. For the last 28 years she had been a resident of Barrie. Her husband survives, also one daugh- ter, Mrs. Raymes of Windsor. One son, Norman Hung- erford, of Meaford, survives. Another son, Watson. died on December 29, 1921, as the result of injuries received in 9. motor car accident three months previous. In 1888 Mr. Hungerford moved to Meaford to join the staff of the Monitor, then pub- lished by the late Alex. Sunter. A few years later he joined The Mir- ror, as associate editor and remain- `ed with the paper during the lifetime * of the late James Patterson, the ear- ly proprietor of that paper. Later he spent some time on The Express. In 1915 Mr. I-Iungerford went to Owen Sound to The Sun to take the place of the late Capt. J. Milton Dobie. when the latter went overseas.
