William Hunter, who left here in 1881 after having conducted a grocery store on Dun- lop Street, on the site where Sim- mons store now stands. for 17 years. Hale and hearty at 86. the Captain is busy shaking hands and recalling reminiscences with form- er friends, of whom only a few re- main. mam. Heeding the advice of Horace Greeley. as Captain Hunter -says. he went to Winnipeg in 1881, four years before the Northwest Rebel- lion. When in Barrie he had been quartermaster of the York and 1Simcoe Battalion and when that militia -unit went west in 1885 he rejoined them as paymaster, act- ing throughout the rebellion. Capt.
