In days gone by the clergyman wm often the only" educatedrman in the community, and was very important cn that account. Today, in the time of spec- ialization and higher education, the parts played by the early clergyman become branches by themselves; social service, for example. Thus -many people conclude that the. clergyman's sphere of inuence `B be- comingrsmaller and that the activity of the Church is declining. On the other hand, the more divisions arise in 'a com- munity through specialization, the greater the need of the unifying inuence of the Church. The Church is a common platform for the varying elements of a community. The Church has still a great work to do in bringing harmony inn) industrial and international circles, where religious differ- ences are a basis for much of the strife 51...; .......a.... 11:--- .I:.a.'-_.._.. __~n L- 1-- cuuca use 6 UIIBIB 101' uunru in H1! Borne that exists. Minor dierenea will be for- gotten when a_ great goal is in the eyes of all, and this is the note that the clergy- men must strike. The kingdom of God is the great objective. The leadership of the clergyman must have in civic aspect and he must express the conscience of the com- munity -in public affairs. Above all. his work must be moral and spiritual, although the other sides of life are necessary. It is a great pity nowadays that the young peo- ple demand so much amusement as the price of their activity in church work. The clergyman is first` and always the ambassa- dor of Jesus Christ, and it is on His prin- ciples that the world can be reconstructed, and it is His indenable spirit that is the secret of leadership in every parish. an 1- 1.1:: U I,,,,I LL_ _,__.__44- _..2LL Itvv-vv \ll .v..u........-r ... ......-_, r--_,_ The Lord` Bishop closed the service with a few impressive words to the rector and to the congregation, saying that a new stream of" inuence would emanate from the clergy to the congregation and that the congregation would also inuence the rec- tor, because no man liveth to himself. -I___ 7-9- I. _. -Congregational social entertainment` next Tuesday night at 8 o clock.
