V -nu; wcv. 1'. uuuunur U1 auruucu anu 061.16!!- A meeting weighted with much more than ordinary importance, was held on Friday evening in the Temperance Hall. This was a conclave of the junior farmers ' of Thornton and the vicinity, who intend to have a -local organization which shall co-operate with those in York and other V counties, for the advancement of agricul- ture and the benet of the agriculturist. Already the organized junior farmers in other counties have exerted a powerful in- uence and they are destined to become a real factor in public life. The meeting ` was addressed by' Mr. McCague, B.S.A.. of Allistuh, who dealt specically with the class in agriculture which he purposes to conduct here next winter. On the motion of Frank Goodwin andgHubert McKenzie, it was unanimously resolved that all pres- ent should pledge themselves to support the work of Mr. MeCague and see the class carried on to a. successful issue. In the course of the evening it was shown that the farmer nowadays had to be a man ofl science; and that far from ranking as a' peasant, where some have ignoran-tly plac-l ed him, he has a right to a position amongl professional men. His alleged right can: be well substantiated; and it is up to thei, junior farmers of today to insist that itl; be" universally acknowledged. The time 5 has forever gone -by when the farmer can}? be made the stock joke of the newspapersi or the object of ridicule on the part of a1 supercilious snobocracy. His calling is ofi l vital importance; it demands a robust in- telligence coupled with a multifarious know- ledge; it warrants a man cultivating a true self-respect; and it is worthy of the honor of all men--for all men are helplessly in- debted to it. The Women's Institute will assist in planning for a course in domestic science to run conciirrently with the class ' above spoken of. `hair `L!
