fteu sifltisylhe trbtme dear editor im ro grte- dv but i like a lot should like to have- first the wide open pace of 1 c its seco a d the lovely ads of daytona and third the heat of palm beach all in one j thats e way of the world i sometimes think how nice i would be if when the lord made the world he had put wings on the people a we ai the birds xobody would have had to stay in cold coun tries an winter then there are more ways of put- iting in the time down around here a mile or less down the road there ate two shows three a ictiort sale al going on at j once and ever such a big pub- lie pavilion where they play cards indoors and shuftieboard outdoors i found a checker j p ivei iat night just about my ms yrc he has just returned from a tournament at st peters- burg 1 shant get much work done now it is warm enough for mid summer here right now the i public beach is crowded be cause so much of the beach be- j longs to hotels or they prei tend it doe the biggest diffi culty is to find a place to park and it is two or three miles down there every corner has a sort of a milepost showing the name and or number of both streets there is a lousy mexican ra- dio station gabbling away on i the same wave as orlando where the canadian news conies from thoe auction sales are funny they call themselves i art galleries the other night thev sold a 84000 diamond ring forsljoo they also sold a lot of womens razors at 75c blades and ail a young fellow went round telling the old ladies what the razor was for just as if they didnt know they sold a silver butter dish for 8350 then reduced the price to 2 and sold their entire stock first come firs served at s2- isome handpainted small table- cloths were sold a 1 59 each 1 1 think they were rjonaflde but my izroraree of such things is awful anything cotton is cheap down here we saw oranges labelled lz per bushel the lowest i ever saw them a dollar is cheap en ugh my its nice to see everything o nice and green the trees have come out a jot in the last three days- our land lady cooked a steak outdoors on a charcoal fire yesterday that guy down at leos res taurant is still carving and ser ving the roat beef with his bare fingers he nil the plate up i could have eaten it thirty years ago but i couldnt now i wouldnt go in there it does nt matter how the food is m3ued about so long as you dont ee them do t rut who wants to eat what youve seen dished up with fingers as the owl said whooooo wednesday we went to the wrestling last night in the legions auditorium 1 counted about 1000 people there we went mostly to see the lady wrestlers 1 expected tosee two wrestlers 1 expected to see 2 dames with muscles like a he- man but the two wrestlers were a great big blond girl about 100 lbs i guess and six feet tall and a smaller brunette 25 or 0 lbs lighter the little one would have made a very good contestant f miss mark- ham fair with more clothes on the little girl started pro- ceedings by throwing the big girl over her head backwards a couple of times then ran be tween her legs hke a dog asl she tried to grab at her that overhead throw requires an aw- fu lot of strength agility and knowledge of the power of lev erage but to be quite positive id like to see her do it with a bag of wheat of equal weight the bag of wheat would not co- operate then she grabbed the big girls hand and swing her j across the ring with that then the big girl took over pulled the other ones hair a lot kick- ed her in two or three impolite places then she slammed her around hither and yon while we waited for the ambulance to tace tne little gr to hospital she got up knocked the big- gr down twice with a tfsw on the chest not much harder than enough to knock a quart bottle of mils off the kitchen table b t more wriggling around t iy i credited with the first fall it the second fall the ug zl took charge atc after while she got credited with the second fall then there was a lot of shouting n the third round the big girl took charge presently picked up the other like a pig carried her over to he ropes tangled her feet in them with her head on the floor and hen jumped on her tummy bringing about the 3rd fail it is quite a show a good show hut 1 believe it is all carefully rehearsed beforehand in the preliminary they had a 220 lb alleged englishman with a 202 lb american the big fel low chuckled the other fellow around for about is minutes then the other fellow did ditto for g or 7 minutes one fall to the american also a good show 1 think this also is an arranged show in mv youth i did a bit of wres it 2 weignt- lifting etc in wrestling i al ways either won or lost within two minutes and if this was on the up and up thee fellows would do the same but their job depends on giving a good show and it is a good show tomorrow night well tackle the dog race i dont have time for these things at home nor do 1 want to when i am busy it is simply wonderful how well we sleep down here we go to bed and the next thing it is daylight it is mar vellous i invariably wake up a lot at night at home im glad we took our trip to europe last winter instead of this year zero in paris lgh imagine the road between nice and can nes blocked with snow 1 ah kinds of funny things go ing on here a faith healing evangelist named cox 1 thing has been prosecuted for prac tising medicine without a lic ence he got bawled out but was acquitted then he charter ed a private plane for 8500 for a twoday trip to nassau in the bahamas evangelism pays bet ter than farming or building i guess i think myself though announcing the appointment of walter that any man with guts enough to t3ke the bible seriously and literally evert try to do faith healing deserves credit whe ther he tcceeds or fails james epistle ays the prayer of f ji save the sick what the use of believing one part oi the kbie and not the other the catholic archbihop of the diocese of xew orleans is getting himself into hot water he has hid a letter read in all i his pai -he- declaring that school segregation is woraliy evil and sinful incidentally the j catholic church is the only one down here which allows a black j child to go to sunday school some years ago a young friend of mine said 1 was cynical well im like amos i dont believe nuthin and very little jof that take the miami news on the r3dio it consists of jut three things 1 damn the j reds 2 will eisenhower run i3 the horse races wei 1 if the americans were so certain jof the superiority of capitalism i theyd leave the reds alone once in a while and 2 if eis enhower werent going to run rgain his successor would be getting more of the limelight and 3 they always talk about the money bet and won but neyer mention the rake- off of the govt and the jockey j club i day after day after day the j radio keeps on talking about america having the highest standard of living in the world they need to do so because no- ibody would notice it driving around the place the vast ma jority of canadian homes are much superior in construction and upkeep than down here besides in this richest country in the world every blessed thing is sold on time and the radio goes blah blah about how low the down payment is often nothing and how low low low the monthly payments are such a story should only be told in india or china it does nt make sense in a country where fellows getting s3 per hour go on strike for 20c more and get it we got too ambitious on the beach on sunday marj got burnt a lot and i got it a little shes having an awful time with ointment and liniment and what all theres a nasty filthy creature in the sea here called a manofwar it has a big blue bladderlike thing and a long streamer attached this strea mer gets attached to and wraps around
