outdoor altkxa when the stouffville lions club placed a hard top on the local tennis courts a number of years ago who would have thought that these same courts would be used more in the winter than in the summer time believe it or not its true tennis as a sport here in town is enjoyed fay comparatively few for reasons i will never know hence these courts are not used to a zreat extent in the summer this winter however a few enterprising men hit upon the idea of flooding the tlat surface and transform ing it into an outdoor hnk available to both boys and sirls through the generosity of harold murphy a tractor and snow plow was obtained and with ken vagg at the wheel the surface was cleared of all ioose snow fire chief bui malloy assisted by messrs fred castle and daws vvagg put the foundation hood on the courts messrs ted cadieux tat aida and walt smith have since taken over the caretaking duties of the rink and every evening they spend between three and four hours shovelling tnow and flooding the ice in preparation for the following days activities the weatherman has cooperated to provide these promoters with frigid temperatures and very little snow if you svunt to see how tnese young lads aud little girls are enjoying this manmade arena drop down to the tennis courts some after noon after school or over the weekend as is usually the case in a venture of this kind the responsibility for its success rests on the shoulders of only a few messrs cadieux aida and smith would appreciate very much if some of the dads whose children are enjoying these fine skating facilities would dig in and assist with the snow shovelling hooding etc many hands make light work almost too latb don rope forward with the kitchenerwaterloo dutchmen and a onegame substitute with observant neighbor lady happened to glance out of her window and noticed dons car still in the driveway she knew ho was supposed to he leaving with the dutchmen so she awakened him while the utility player was racing to kitchener anxious team mates continued to make frenzied calls to his gait home penally the motorcade pulled out fifteen minutes later he arrived at the auditorium john decker the auditorium assist ant manager sped the missing puckster in pursuit of the bus it was finally overtaken just east of breslau we can imagine he had a good deal of explaining to do before his mates
