council disapproves wholesale land annexation markham township council meeting in regular ses sion on tuesday evening strongly disapproved of the wholesale annexation of three thousand acres of land to markham village markham village council headed by reeve jos fry appeared before the township body sug gesting that annexation of this large area be considered the area which the village wishes to have annexed is approximately one mile and a quarter each way from the main corner at no 7 highway the village boundaries under such a setup would reach to the 9th concession on the east and the 7th concession on the west the area would also reach south a mile and a quarter and include the lavish new golf course located near box grove reeve lemasurier objected to any such annexation as he wednesday- may 19th mr harry sipang a wellknown and highly respected resident of markham township passed away in the stouffville nurs ing home following a heart attack the late mr spang was born on the 5th concession of mark ham the son of anthony spang and mary jennings he later resided at ringwood where he operated a harness shop for over 20 years and then moved to mount albert where he con tinued his practice mr spang operated the general store at sandford before finally taking up residence on the 8th con cession of markham the de ceased was noted for his har nessmaking skill a trade he practiced for over forty years his wife the former alice hoover passed away six years ago the late harry spang was 3n ardent worker in the peach es united church where he held the office of steward and trustee for a number of years he was a member of the mount albert oddfellows lodge he is survived by two daugh ters mrs jean garner of to ronto and mrs geo sale ev elyn on the 8th concession of resided in st catharines he was in his 65th year he is survived by his wife the former mar tha housser the late mr mcdowell was an interested worker in the wideman mennonite church on the sth concession of mark ham he taught a sunday school class for a number of years besides his wife he leaves to mourn his passing two daughters arietta at home mrs lillian steckle of zurich and three sons mennonite church on sunday afternoon conducted by mr aaron grove assisted by floyd schmucker and elmer jjurkhoider with interment in the wideman cemetery the pallbearers were clarence mcdowell robt mc ontario hugh boyd was long standing former councillor claremont court case settled the action brought by jack brtgnali of claremont in the supreme court of out a r i o rgainst mrs olive jarvis of branchton ont personally as well as executrix of the estate of albert mantle deceased for specific performance of an ag cement dated june 1st 1953 under which mrs jarvis agreed to sell to the plaintiff brignall acres of land in the village of claremont belonging to the estate of the late albert man tle and devised by him tinder his will to his daughter the said olive jarvis or in the al ternative damages for breach of said contract was tried before the honourable mr justice gale on wednesday at the town of whitby and after a days trial was dismissed with costs on the ground that the said agreement had been obtained by the said plaintiff from mrs jarvis by fraudulent misrepre sentation on the part of said plaintiff r h humphreys fsq qc and j a macdonald of oshava acted for the said plaintiff while the defendant was represented by f l- but ton esq qc of stouffville this case had aroused con siderable interest in the vicin ity of claremont where the parties are well known following a lingering illness which saw his health dopre i elate rapidly during i week j hugh boyd of stouffville pass ed away here on tuesday eve ning mav 25th he was in his 70th year born m ireland the late hugh boyd came to this coun try at the early age of nine years the family settled on the 9th concession of markham and hero he was raised fol lowing some years on the 3th mr boyd moved to ringwood for a time and came to stouff ville about twentyeight years ago he married dora forsyth who predeceased him about seventeen years ago and to this union were torn two daughters who survive their father eight years ago mr boyd married mrs j johnson who survives him the late hugh royd was en gaged in the drover business most of his active years and has assisted at the holden gar age for a time more recently he served several terms as town councillor where he gave much time and energy in the carrying out of town business he was also active with the christmas horse show which flourished here for a time mr boyd was an ardent sport fan both baseball and hockey and followed the local teams con sistently he was associated with the baptist church the late hugh boyd took an active interest in politics and was an ardent worker for the liberal party during many campaigns besides his wife he is sur vived by two daughters mrs wilmot stover of stouffville and mrs a hennessey of osh- awa also nine grandchildren there are two sisters mrs hessie hornshaw of white- vale and mrs mary daret of toronto and one brother dave on the 9th of markham the funeral this friday will be conducted from the l e oneill funeral chapel at 230 pm by rev h branton pall bearers will be messrs ed williams harvey schell ever ett harper chas ward m e watts and gordon birkett interment will le made in the stouffville cemetery mrs jack todds and daugh ter of belleville were in stouffville during the holiday weekend visiting her mother mrs d f holden pave portion of pickering townline a portion of the pickering- markham townline extending from no7 highway to tihe whitevale sideroad witl be paved this year at a cost of g000 the cost of the paving will be shared between tihe two municipalities markham town ship council was reluctant to assume a share since nothing had been set asido for this purpose in the budget how ever pickering agreed to fin ance the job and markham wik pay their share next year among the many friends from toronto who attended the funeral of the late mr lud hoover last thursday were mr and mrs barnecott a cousin of mrs l hoovers mr and mrs barnecott were fomiar
