late home 10th con of whitchurch on friday feb 5th she was in her 59th year deceased was the former helen michell of pickering township when lerses were more prevalent ri town a few years ago mr and mrs burrows were a very familiar sight in town with their light wagon and white lorse besides her husband wil liam arnold burrows this mo ther leaves to mourn her pas sing two sons donald of markham and maitland of stouffviue and a daughter he len at home there are two grandchildren a brother al fred lives at green river mrs m ryan dora a sister ced ar grove and mrs f michell ruby of colbourne and a brother henry of markham rev john mclachlan con ducted the funeral which was held on monday afternoon in terment was made in stouff viue cemetery the pallbearers were all nephews allan and bill mi chell morley ryan arthur and james burrows and allis on fleming former councillor farmer john scott buried wednesday resident in stouifville for a number of years and farmer in the claremont area for more than forty years john scott passed away at black- stock on sunday feb 7th fol lowing a lingering illness the result of a severe stroke the late john scott was born at altona on oct 10th 1874 and farmed in the clare mont area for more than forty years the large red barn and brick house which he built just south of the village and which he operated for thirty- five years weie familiar to the many residents who travelled the 9th concession hls first wife the former margaret bay- les predeceased him in 1916 following which he retired to stouffviue and erected a new bungalow on park rd sales and hand led sales for twenty five auc tioneers over a period of forty five years he was a member of the independent order of workmen later the ioojt as well as the stouffviue lions club since coming to stouff viue he had become a memb er of the anglican church surviving him are his wife the former genevra campbell whom he married in 1948 there are three sisters mrs wm forsyth marie of pun- paid a short visit to his parents mr and mrs roy crosby on his way from centralia an odd coincidence occurred the other day involving our local jeweller ken wagg and a toronto taxi driver the taxi driver happened to be harry brown son of the late abe brown formerly of stouff viue and a school student here some twentyfive years ago harry was making a quick dash for the hospital with an expectant mother when he collided with ken waggs car speaking to this former school chum this week the writer learned that mr brown mar velled at the great changes in town he has not visited here in more than ten years the regular monthly meet ing of the stouffviue home id school assoc was held on wed feb 3 at s pm in the school the meeting began with a sing song directed by mrs e mcconnachie and was enjoy ed by all present the guest speaker of the evening was mrs abrams cur district public health nurse her talk outlined the work of the pub lic health unit and its relation to the community one point of interest of which many may not be aware was the fact that there is a gage institute tb unit present at the stouffviue united church ev ery eighth week to give free chest xrays following mrs abrams ad dress two films were shown the first dealt with eating pro blems and proved very enlight ening the second showed the ageless problem of the com mon cold and the care that should be taken after a vote of thanks to mrs abrams the meeing adjourned at the official board meet ing of the melville bethesda and peachs united churches held on monday evening the members heard with regret of the decision of the minister itev geo e robins to retire from the active ministry at the end of of the conference year in june appreciations of the work done by rev and mrs robins during their min istry were
