mrs ian reid were guests at the wedding of miss libby morris and mr murray kash at the town house in toronto on sunday january 31st mr and mrs william milne and family of toronto were sunday visitors of mrs william botham mr and mrs clarence foote and family of cedar valley were sunday dinner guests of the roy smiths sunday visitors with mr and mrs russ ellas and family were mr and mrs william whitty john and evelyn and mr and mrs karn and daughter all of altona mrs richard has been suffer ing from a heavy cold for sever al weeks best wishes for a complete recovery are extended to her from all her friends mr and mrs harold botham and sons visited with her parents mr and mrs frank allen in toronto on sunday the gormley branch of the womens institute held the january meeting in the home of mrs r c baycroft on wednes day jan 27th and regardless of the very stormy day there were fifteen members present presi dent mrs james macdonald pre sided mrs bernard kays was nominated to see what could be done about forming a girls garden club the remainder of the watkins products was dis posed of mrs baycroft pro vided the program and some interesting tweedsmuir material was read mrs jack gamble gave a reading there was an interesting contest followed by piano selections by miss dorothy baycroft and master bobbie baycroft refreshments were then served the wa will meet at the home of mrs r c baycroft on wednesday february 10th at 230 pm roll call xante a fruit of the spirit the devotional will be given by mrs chester pattenden and mrs norman brown will provide the program all are welcome the whitchurch home and school association will meet in ss xo 7 on monday evening feb 8th at s30 pm this is founders night and will be in charge of mrs bernard kays who is planning on having a film followed by a discussion mrs d pollock will be soloist on the program lunch will be in the form of a box social with the ladies providing the boxes and the gentlemen to do the bidding all are welcome mr and mrs ted barlow held a bingo in their home on saturday evening january 30th the proceeds of which went to the whitchurch home and school association there were about thirtyfive players and twentynine dollars were realiz ed lucky prize winners were jits fred kirstein mrs karl offenbeck mr macpherson miss barbara kirstein mrs jim slnith mr ed gimber mr metro sudeyko and mr ray mccarron mrs andy lloyd won the large hamper of groceries donated by aurora iga store the young peoples group held a sleigh riding party on friday evening of last week mr george iboynton supplied his team and sleigh and mr law rence smith his tractor and sleigh participants of this old time means of entertainment numbered thirtyfive following the sleigh ride all returned to the home of mr bernard kays for games and refreshments the gormley wi ladies are sponsoring a progressive euchre at vandorf community hall on friday night feb 12th lunch will be provided also good prizes all are cordially invited to attend stouffvilie bride reeve henry ogden of stouffvilie and his bride the former mrs mary minton are caught by the tribune photographer as they cut the cake follow ing their marriage on sat urday afternoon the cer emony was conducted by rev douglas davis the bride was attired in a navy suit with white hat white and riavv accessories and a corsage of roses and white snapdragon she was attended by doreen ogden in a navy suit with turquoise and navy acces sories and corsage of ros es and white snapdragon charles minton acted as groomsman a wedding supper was held at the grooms home following the ceremony and the cou ple left on a honeymoon trip to florida peaches altona mrs sam goudie spent tues day with mrs m blinker and children mrs rob lewis suffered a nasty tumble down the stairs in her homo last week mr and mrs john tsun of toronto have been visiting mr and mrs lon blizzard for a few days enroute to business one day last week mr george mcclev- erty had the misfortune to come into collision with ano ther car glad to report that no one was seriously injured except their new ford visitors at the nelson smith home over sunday included mr and mrs patrick pitt of greatly missed on tuesday two representa tives of peaches wms mrs henry miller and mrs jack nigh journeyed to toronto to attend the toronto east pres bytery wm3 annual meeting held at kimbourne united church mr and mrs joseph deavitt were visiting the miller fam ilies on sunday the peaches young people held a sunday evening meet ing at the church miss elva kirk and graham frisby were in charge of the service fractured her arm last week winners at the euchre par ty last friday night were mrs f disney and mr win evans the mens club will meet on monday night feb 8th this will be a supper meeting of meat pie etc followed by a special program the wa will meet on wed feb 10th at the home of mrs cecil jones mrs lome jones is in charge of the meeting roll call an item on valen tine we are glad to hear that mr walter carson is somewhat improved following his accid ent a week ago sunday mr and mrs lewis jones spent saturday evening with mr and mrs art hayes in toronto balsam and mt zion friends are sorry to hear that mis- polina white sister of mrs wp jones fell and pine orchard miss teressa orourke in jured her ankle at school last week and is now in a cast miss betty colbourne at pre sent is boarding in newmark et with her girl friend miss joan tidman mrs george sproxton held a shower at her home in hon our of our newly weds mr and mrs ray lundy many lovely gifts were received by the young couple a wolf was seen on the farm of geo crawford on the 6th line just north of cedar valley recently we welcome the byrnes fa mily into our community ha ving bought the hendry home markham preparing new hog bylaw wf riley solicitor appear ed before markham township council on monday and asked that council repeal their tran sportation bylaw which pro hibited the hauling of garbage on township roads the re quest arose through councils attempts to curtail the keep ing of hogs in an alleged un sanitary condition on the 8th etin and which had raised the ire of a number of residents there only recently messrs frank and john robb led a delega tion before council presenting a petition to ban the thomp son swill- feeding establish ment on the sth con solicitor lucas told council that such a petition had no legal ability to do what the petitioners wish ed to do he further stated that the township could be zoned to restrict the keeping of hogs but could not discrim inate against any particular in dividual he also said that there were means of regulat ing the keeping of swine in a defined area and council a- greed that their solicitor should proceed along this line in pre paring a new bylaw the matter of prohibiting dogs running at large also came up for discussion and mr lucas was requested to prepare a bylaw to restrict these dogs in the area of the 1st concession south of no 7 highway ard from the rich mond hill boundary to the jail farm property foxes running wild the foxes are running wild in the unionville area mr j weir told council on monday he said that they were killin chickens and between the fox es and coons it would soon be impossible to grow sweet corn or keep chickens on range he went on to say that only mon day one man had bagged four foxes theres not much use in buying pheasants for the fox es to kill off declared mr weir clerk chas hoover reveal ed that s85 in bounty had been recently paid in one week by markham council agreed that as mark ham is crown game preserve the dept of game should be tsked if it would be possible to hold a fox hunt and possib ly bring in some toronto hunt clubs ringwood we are sorry to clarke accompanied by her son harold and mr clarke were in milton last sunday mr r tweedie has had a tv set installed this last week a number of ladies met at the home of mrs reg clarkes to cut out and piece a quilt for the wa those indisposed with colds at present are mrs pascoe mr a morden mr f titter- ton we hope for a speedy re covery mr and mrs bertan wilson and family of toronto were visitors with her mother mrs a pegg recently mrs p wilson called on mrs mary 1airgrieve of whitby who has not been feeling up to the mark lately the wa will meet at mrs p clarkes on thursday after spent one evening last week with mr and mrs ed redshaw claromont mrs gowan ferguson and rg ferguson toronto spent the weekend at glen gowan mr and mrs doleman to ronto spent the weekend at their cottage here mr and mrs jim jones and shirley spent sunday with mrs f walls brooklin ikkk tangles ix wire fence a deer was found caught in a wire fence on a farm t miles east of uxbridge on 47 highway recently apparently the deer had been trying to jump the fence and became en tangled willis jarvis of blackwater reported the incident to con stable wilton opp who went to investigate when he arriv ed the animal was very badly hurt caused by its struggles to get free and it was decided that it must be put out of its misery the deer was brought in to horns meat market and later was handed over to the game warden ben smith of port perry animals which have to be jigger hit by car three ka1lmex hurt three canadian national railways section men were hurled into a ditch and in jured on thursday when their jigger was struck by a car at a level crossing near zeph yr william couper 61 of mt albert the section foreman received head injuries elmer comer 53 of zephyr had an arm and leg broken and
