whitby at a cost of a- ilxnu a cent a gallon the problem of water sup ply in this thickly populated area has long been an import ant eiuestion the proposal now being submitted to rate payers is one which was ad vocated by the late deputy- reeve of the township dr neil mcewen the consulting engineers say that the filtration gallery system of intake can be con structed at 500000 as opposed to ten times that much ifor a large pumping station citizens of the township will have ample opportunity to hear the proposal discussed during the next few weeks at a number of special meetings which are scheduled through out the area the village of pickering is not included in the proposal because it recently concluded an agreement with ajax to ob tain water from there question to be asked on elec tion day is are you in favour of a municipal water supply for this specified area at a cost of approximately 005000 tests have been made at frenchmans bay on a small filtration gallery water hole with the result that wb red fern says seepage from the lake into the reservoir is ade quate tile township council is not committed to the proposal but wishes to ascertain the feel ing of voters in the southwest area it is also said that the lack of a water system is one of the main reasons no industry seems to be interested in loc ating in pickering nnn7ay3ayann777at3rn733jira737a77n7innay dont be
