meeting for markham township mem bers discussed the threat to the local farm land which was being introduced by those who were reaping large profits from selling olf top soil people will be asking for markham tp council on monday evening as it was revealed that a travel ling evangelist mr barrett had been ordered to pack up and get outof gormley where he was conducting a street meeting mr barrett appeared before council tusking for permiss to return to gormley but no de cision was voiced by council pending a full written report from the police on the affair mr barrett told council that he speaking said depu tyreeve lemasurier there was considerable dis cussion over the matter and it was pointed out that the noise of the loud speaker appeared to be the chief objection the clerk stated that he believed the police had received a couple of complaints about the loud speaker well that was no reason to chase the man away i think theres more to this than just the noise and we belter find out what it is declared coun cillor hooper deputyreeve lemasurier gave promise of a police re port in writing he is chair man of the police committee the travelling preacher re vealed that that he was con nected with the pentecostal church and said that he could bring in rev nosworthy from markham tqsubstantiate his claims polio fatal to 10yearold at bloomington richard lewis 10 year old son of mr and mrs vernon lewis of bloomington passed away early wednesday morn ing in the thistletown sick childrens hospital as the re sult of polio which he contact ed a little more than one year ago richard was born on the ninth concession of markham and attended ss 19 public- school later moving to bloom ingtori with his parents where he attended school in that sec tion in august of last year he was stricken with polio and although he underwent extensive treatment and was believed to be making satis factory progress he failed to recover and passed away in his sleep on wednesday sale of twp property not up to reserve bid the auction sale on satur day of the markham township office and garage failed to reach the reserve bid the sale was conducted by prentice and prentice auctioneers a num johnston thirty two guests sat down to a dainty supper the tables were beautifully decorated with floral arrangements and pink and white streamers the anniversary cake was a thing of beauty flanked by mclellan who performed crash puts local folks in hospital mrs doris johnston her husband j a johnston son douglas 1 and her parents mr and mrs dick foote of stouffville were all removed to stjosephs
