most esteemed citizens last week in the passing of george t lee at his home on main st friday april 10th 1953 he was in his 81st year al though mr lee has been in failing health for some time his sudden passing came as a shock to relatives and friend george as he was familiar ly known was born in picker ing township and farmed in that locality for sixteen years prior to coming to stouffville during his time here he was pssocated with ratcliff co for many years until a few years ago he and mrs lee were very active in the affairs of the town and mr lee ivss at one time councillor here mr lees cheery smile and ready wit made him a great favourite wherever he went he is survived by his wife who will continue to make her home in stouffville the funeral- on monday afternoon was conducted from 0ineiils funeral chapel by rev g davidson assisted by rev douglas davis floral tributes banked the casket in profusion bearing mute evid ence of the esteem held for the deceased pallbearers were glenn ratcliff gordon ratcliff chas gostick win connor evans ward and guy rut- ledge interment was made in claremont cemetery friends and relatives were present at the funeral from a distance and included mr russel madill of detroit and mr j h madill of harrow also fred of toronto brothers of mrs lee mr and mrs gary richardson and son boyer us air force roan oke va also friends and relatives from cooksville bowmanville port credit toronto uxbridge and other centres two carloads of local odd fellows were in cannington on monday evening visiting the foof branch there which has been restored to new quarters following a disas trous lire several mouths ago stouffville public school board placed a request for use of accommodation in the stouffville public school for the operation of a junior for further consider ation when the board met this week june smith and harrv hunt of stouffville high school will represent the local lions club at the zone oratorical contest in aurora this week the people were given cash prizes mr and mrs herbert dish- ley formerly of toronto now residents of markham have sold their summer home at ballantrae this lovely oroom bungalow was built for them in 1933
