winter stein and the couple were privileged to enjoy over sixty years of married life together during their early married years they farmed on the old winterstein homestead in scott township later in mark- ham township and for over fifty years they made their home in whitchurch town ship mrs winterstein was a member of bloomington chris tian church and was an active member there until her health failed she is survived by two sons joseph d and william ross of slouffville one daughter lottie the late mrs allen closseh passed away several years ago one brother samuel lone- of whitby also survives and four grandson- donald clossdn of toronto reginald winterstein of newmarket eugene winterstein of fort robinson and bruce winter stein of stoutfville there arc- seven great grandchildren the funeral service conduct ed by rev gibson brown and rev e morton an old friend of the family took place on wednesday april sth from the funeral chapel of l e oneill with interment in stoutfville at the arena box office l k oneills and the tribune office council moving toward survey for sewer system daniel ramer 88 wellknown apiarist on thursday april 2nd mr daniel ramer noted apiarist on the 10th concession of markham passed away in the stouffville brierbush hospital in his ssth year the son of david ramer and maria hoo ver the late mr ramer has been a resident of markham twp all his life he was enjoying comparatively good health until the middle of january when he was strick en and never recovered the deceased was a member of the locust hill united church and served as elder in the congregation for a number of years the late daniel ramer was widely known for his honey and obtained many prizes at fall fairs and exhibitions he was one of the first to exhibit honey at the cne in toron to mr ramer was also very active at sports in his com munity during his younger years baseball and hockey were both greatly enjoyed by the deceased in the days of his youth besides his wife the former elizabeth nutt mr ramer is survived by two daughters mabel mrs a r shirk of ridgeway blance on the 10th concession of markham and one son carl also on the 10th concession funeral service was held at the locust hill united church on sunday afternoon at 230 pm conducted by rev j mclachlan with interment in the locus hill cemetery the pallbearers were geo bennett frank reesor gordon hager- and erson associates ltd engin eers presented stouffville town council with a mast compre hensive picture of what a local sewerage system would entail when they visited coun cil on monday evening repre sentatives of the firm were in town a week ago and had made a rough man of the inuii- icipality and its needs they rated that sloiilfville would not present any difficult engin eering problems for the instal ling of such a system the greater part of the system could be operated by gravity with only one pumping station likely that in the southwest section of town levels were taken at various points to gain the knowledge presented to council the disposal plant it was thought would be best located south of the present park property the installation or sewerage ir the average ontario com munity is roughly estimated at s200 per head of population such a system would take both toilet waste and cellar drains the cost of the survey to stouffville would be 700 the engineers told council and should the municipality pro ceed with the job this amount would stand as a credit again st the engineering fees no additional town water would be required to operate the system with the exception of a small pipe to the disposal plant for cleaning purposes such a plant as outlined for stouffville would require the services of one man about four hours a day in the matter of roads mr henry stated that the dept of highways would pay subsidy on replacing those streets torn up for the instal lation the survey would re quire at least a month to com plete anderson associates have- ccmpleted sewerage systems in several communities one of the most recent being acton they have also just finished a survey for markham it was pro posed that council should visit the acton plant and then make a decision on whether or not to proceed with the survey local provincial police officers will instruct school children on safety rules sitting in on stouhvillcs municipal council meeting on monday night opp officer w s milliard told members that he and his fellow con stable j vanderkooi would shortly give some instruction to the children at the school regarding safety regulations mr cec hendricks member ot the stoutfville public school hoard was also present at the meeting and stated thai the hoard would welcome such assistance from the local officers in safeguarding the children billiard also successor is delayed park board to demolish grandstand the grandstand in the town park which has served the community well for a good many years is to he demolish ed according to a decision of the community centre board at their inaugural meeting on monday for the present a temporary tool shed to house the park tractor and other equipment will be erected at the south end of the grounds mrs les wilson was named chairman of the board with keith middlemiss secretary and glenn ratclilt treasurer members expressed regret that bert rati who has done such an excellent job of care- taking in the park for a num ber of years will be unable to reassume his duties this spring due to ill health mr i ou slack has been engaged to fill mr batts position and work will commence immed iately to place council on monday even ing retiring constable ira rusnell was presented with a pen and pencil set in recognition of his eleven years of service to the community reeve ogden stated in his few brief presented a recorded vote was called on monday in markham town ship council on an issue of confidence in the township planning hoard deputyreeve iemasurier recorded opposi tion to the motion of confid ence following their presenta tion of a quarterly report conflict over the work of the planning board has arisen since the publishing of a letter written by mr shorten a former member of the board prior to its publishing the letter was read in council by the deputyreeve the letter criticised the board for in activity everyone in public office is open for criticism but not malicious gossip declared dr tanner chairman of the board i think the planning board is doing a good job said reeve timbers the letter was read to you as constructive criticism but apparently the board is not gracious enough to accept it declared deputy reeve le- masurier we should have been con sulted first declared the doctor the ietter was personal 1 was against it being read and objected at the time agreed applications were re ceived for the position with more than a thousand dollars difference in the rates of pay asked several applicants received per sonal interviews but the final decision has been delayed a few days mr garfield brown recently resigned to accept a position at oueens park messrs guy rutledge and gar lehman for the chamber of commerce appeared before council in connection with the proposed erection of new st signs a price of s885 for a handsome black and white metal sign was given stan dards to be extra it was sug gested that the main st inter sections only should be equip ped with the signs as a begin ning in order to spread the cost over several years coun cil is expected to make a final decision in this matter at the next meeting e r good local assessor poke to council briefly con cerning the equalizing of the assessment for the purpose of school tax in the stouffville public school ection com prising parts of whitchurch and markham township it appeared that there was a difference of about 75 be tween the figure as suggested by markham township and that of stouffville and council left the matter with the asses sor to make the best arrange ments possible in the interests of the municipality the asses sors of the three municipali ties will meet again this fri day night along with the new public school inspector mr hallman as arbitrator council agreed by resolu tion to proclaim daylight sav ing time on april 26th and a proclamation will appear in this newspaper to that effect planning meeting here important to citizenry the citizens particularly those who own property in stouffville are being urged on every hand to attend the im portant meeting this thurs day evening in the veterans hall being sponsored by the local chamber of commerce and dealing with the matter of town planning annexation and sewerage a panel of experts with some el the most notable figures in the ontario and york county planning picture will be oh hand to answer your ques
