came in effect in 1915 v one of the fairest things that could be done we think is to pro- vide a special low rate for persons who have contributed to the fund for say ten years yet have never drawn a cent from it surely these people are entitled to a preferred rate over the list of high paid plasterers steam fitters and carpen- ters who draw annually from this compensation a preferred rate would theme for discus sion was is there a farm hous ing problem it was decided that there is indeed a farm housing problem but that it is one of repair and improvement rather than shortage many improvements however have been made to farm houses in recent years such as rural electrification making poss ible the use of electric conveni ences to the farm housewife such as electric washing machines refrigerators and vacuum cleaners hot and cold running water for kitchen and bathroom and laundry is enjoyed in many rural homes today as well as central heating it was decided by the discussion groups that a definite proportion of the farm income should be devoted to improving the home not only by installing modern con veniences but by painting the farm home and beautifying the farm home by planting shrubs and flowers and by having attractive driveways after the discussion period a contest was enjoyed after which all those present joined heartily in the singing of christ mas carols and community songs refreshments were served by the hostess a special feature of the evening was a collection taken in aid of the hospital for sick child ren to which all most generously responded thirty dollars was con tributed to this worthy cause the next meeting of the forum will be held at the home of mr and mrs frank grove on monday evening jan 9 mrs fred wicks jr has been quite
