and robert wooley of wilcox lake protested before whitchurch council in session on saturday at vandorf that the manner in which garbage is being collected at wilcox lake was highly unsatisfactory tues day is the prescribed day for collecting but if bad roads or poor weather prevented the collection that day of the week it was passed up until the day came around again result garbage all over the district attracting dogs and creat ing a general nuisance the deputation asked council to investi gate the situation and to impose a twoday collection per vee all year around council promised to clean up the area at once and to interview the collector with the idea of getting better service the contract expires in another month it was pointed out then a firmer one could be made whatever the cost the area served must bear the shot the number valley conserva tion commission reported on the expenditures for this year for improvement of the humber its flood control and landscape development a total of 10000 is being levied over the area but as whitchurch is called on for only 8 no objection was offered the assessment the city of toronto will bear 31520 of the total township of york 1520 as among the heavily taxed while places like king township will pay 210 whitchurch has little area affected being almost outside the lumber watershed the planning committee was requested to report on the aurora request respecting planning con trol of a section of the township bordering aurora this is the second time the request has been before council since aurora is anxious to get control of new expansion close to that town and which it was said would be better for not only aurora but the town ship of whitchurch percy hutchinson newmarket appealed to council for a grant to ward the purchase of 120 acres of land in whitchurch to be given over to a boy scout camp but he didnt receive much encourage ment reeve logan said he didnt think there would be any money available for assisting an outside cause worthy as it may be councillor baycroft suggested there was little connection be tween scouts and the township of whitchurch thus the matter stood however councillor sid legge said the matter would be left in hands of the finance com mittee and if they bring in a recommendation for a grant coun cil would consider the request at that time councillor fred timbers urged council to chairman artificial arena committee john r barkey passed away the death of our west end citizen john r barkey came with shocking suddenness to many of the friends in town who were not aware that mr barkey had been in poor health for some time he passed away at his home spruce villa early wednesday morning this week in his s3rd year mr barkey was a native of the district and was born on a farm just north of town his parents being the late mr and mrs abram barkey for years our townsman was a farmer but came into stouffville to operate a draying and express business and in 1911 he went to toronto in the employ of the rail way remaining there for 20 years on his retirement mr and mrs barkey located in stouffville agai the deceased was married in 1900 to bertha stover who sur vives him together with two daughters mrs john mitchell of toronto and mrs honsberger missionary in africa also one son gordon barkey of toronto mr and mrs barkey were both faithful members of the united missionary church being identi fied with the mennonite movement all their lives the funeral service this friday afternoon will be held at oneills chapel in stouffville at 230 pm following which inter ment will be made at the dickson hill cemetery unconscious neighbours found lying on the ground alongside the colony house on his property at altona ross stover was picked up in an unconscious condition by neighbours on wed nesday evening last week about 7 oclock he was rushed to the brierbush hospital in stouffville where lie died a few hours later death was due to a stroke only the same afternoon mr stover had been helping fred lewis at the altona feed place and after going to his home nearby he had pre sumably worked about his poultry when seized by a stroke he never regained consciousnes born in the stouifville district 57 years ago this july ross stover spent his entire life in the neigh borhood he was a bachelor and only child of the late christian stover of altona and nephew of jacob stover of mount joy he lived for years with his widowed mother until the time of her death ross was counted as a good lacrosse player and played on the stouffville team when the game was at its height the funeral on saturday after noon from oneills chapel in stouffville proceeded to altona mennonite cemetery for interment rev edgar morton conducted the service back from english
