nolan son publishers wptb and questions answers q i am a war bride and have been in this country since last march all that time i have been un able to obtain either a steamer or a colander as there are plentiful supplies of all other types of pans could you explain this shortage are you aware of the exorbitant prices now kng charged for loose leaf files a welcome to canada we are always happy to find a war bride taking such keen interest in our price control regulations here as far as the steamer is concerned these are made of tin and are still in very short i supply we have checked the larger stores and find that they have colanders in from time to time we suggest you place your order with your nearest dealer loose leaf files were removed from the list of articles under price ceiling regulations and dealers may now set their own prices how ever we have enquired around and find that many places are selling at the same price as mentioned many times it is the policy of the government to remove price controls as soon as possible as more items are removed from the list we will have to be more careful of our shopping habits and try to make our purchase at the place where we receive the best value i for our money i noticed in this column a com plaint from a farmers wife about the ration books given to polish veterans who have come to work on the farms where there is only two of us i find it very difficult to stretch the sugar ration i think they should have received canning sugar coupons what can be done about it v frankly nothing we must draw the line somewhere as it would not be possible to go on handing out canning sugar coupons indefinitely all per sons applying for new ration books up to and including oct 31 were allowed this years can ning sugar allotment there is no fruit available for canning at this time of year your years canning has now been done as stated in the column last week the polish veterans received exactly the same ration coupons as any other canadian and were sure they are quite happy and satisfied you will be able to use his coupons for sugar as they come due during the winter months and if he is still employed at your farm next spring naturally he will be entitled to his share of canning sugar coupons which you will be able to use in the meantime lets show these man some good canadian hospitality and share our abundant supplies fairly with them q last thursday i purchased a pair of shoes and was charged sis- dont you think that was far too much i have never bought at this store before but was advised by a friend of mine who always buys there that she paid only s15 for the same shoes a short time ago a as you gave us the name and address of the store the brand name of the shoes and enclosed your bill we were able to make an immediate check the shoes which you purchased were imported from the united states as are most of the shoes sold by this particular shop as you no doubt know that all price con trols were abolished in the us and prices have risen consider ably canadian dealers are allowed to charge the price which it cost to bring these shoes here plus a controlled markup in other words their profit is no greater but as the us price has increased that amount it is reflected in the retail price there is still a ceil 1 santas full of surprises this year i the christmas spirit arrived in our store several weeks ago and every day people have been gathering to enjoy this yuletide atmosphere and see the many gifts that are on display big packages small packages gifts for the family gifts for your friends i v y y y y y v y but santa has been rather wistful this year and says that though hes brought marvelous gifts to surprise please and delight he just couldnt turn out as many of each as he wanted better shop early dont delay another minute for gifts here dont stay on the counters long we want every one to have as good a selection as possible when they come in there are gifts to treasure gifts to delight the heart of any little tot there are things for mother and dad which when wrapped in our gay christmas papetries will make this christmas more colorful than ever we like
