lovely home of mr and mrs cliff salmon main street west to bid farewell to the couple who have since left to make their home in western canada a delightful pro gram of games and amusements was well planned and carried out all of which came to a finish when an appetizing lunch was served and the departing couple presented with a gift intended to remind them in future years of their old friends thanks of the committee and all who attended home from labrador cpl clifford barkey arrived home from labrador last weekend having received his discharge from the rcaf he was stationed at goose bay 150 miles inland from the atlantic and which is only reached by air route there were two bases located nere one can adian and one for the yankees from which place they hop off for scotland cliff says the weather was moderate but the waters around there are commonly referred to as the graveyard of the atlantic be cause of the heavy fogs that hang over that area mrs barkey has been living with her parents mr and mrs delos graham ringwood and mr and mrs barkev will now make future plans since h is about to be reestablished in civilian life the reeve ol the town was inter viewed by two different firms last saturday with a view to obtaining factory space for rental one firm is a pant manufacturing concern the other is engaged in the textile busi ness and were very tnxious to open a branch plant in stouffville unfortunately nothing came of the interviews since there is not a property available for such work an effort was made to interest the firms in building but they were both adverse to putting their money into real estate and furthermore were of the opinion that materials were not available for building we understand that the home manu facturing co in the ratcliff block is employing about 20 hands and a similar number is engaged at the gold fish supply and while this takes up the female help fairly well there is a strong desire that a factory that would require male help would be a benefit to the town perhaps this is right but such male help is very limited in numbers any young man who is mechanically inclined can find employment at the stouflville machine tool works important notice to farmers and poultrymen due to the present meat shortages in toronto there is a terrific demand for poultry these itinerant traveling road buyers are making plenty of money buying poultry at the old prices if you have any hens you wish to dispose of now is an ideal time to do it in fact at the present prices they are worth more dressed than for egg production positively give us a call you will be amazed at the present prices our truck picks up your poultry at your farm and weighs them on your scales for honest weight dont fail to get your share of this temporary unusual situation vernadene poultry farm percy hewlett phone stouffville 343 49 the sign of quality gormley a choir of 42 voices will sing at the mennonite brethren in christ church sunday afternoon
