several years of declining health two years of which she was a hos pital patient the baker homestead on baker hill at lot 9 con 7 whitchurch where the deceased had lived since her marriage back in 1882 sixty- three years ago has been in the baker family for 130 years and her death rather hreaks a link in the long chain of resident owners it was in 1815 that one james lundy sold this 100 acres to emanuel baker and ever since a baker has lived on- the farm or until mrs sylvanus baker was removed to the hospital of course her home was there to the end since her house hold rand personal effects still occupy a portion of the great house that is beautifully situated midway between the 7th and 8th concessions west of the baker hill church mrs bakers maiden name was mary ann mcdowell she both of whom are now dead be sides two daughtersinlaw an only grandchild miss jean baker sur vives also living is a sister mrs jos pickett of uxbridge aged 78 years and a halfbrother in stpaul and a halfsister living in dakota- mrs baker wasa member of the baker hill baptist church and was actively engaged in its work at one time the funeral service on satur- lday afternoon was held in the church near a bush on the property on monday when they witnessed the two dogs attack a herd of cattle which spread in fright then the attackers centered on their kill and after bringing it down they eat into the flank of the animal it was later found by the farmer in the creek where the cruel attack was finally consumated the duncan sons visited the markham township council on monday evening and made a report on the affair before constable ben gayman who is investigating only eleven days prior to this the same two dogs carried out a similar assault killing a young heifer the carcass however was buried but the sheep valuer was called in on this second occurrence and the council will be required to pay compensa tion they may recover from the owners of the dogs which are be lieved to be owned mthe neighbor hood both heifers were chewed in the same quarter but there was no eye witness to the first attack and the carcass was accidentally found partly decomposed by a party of boy scouts vandorf resident mrs carli heintzman a former resident of vandorf died suddenly at peterborough mrs heintzman was born in toronto her maiden name being olive benness she attended malvern ci shortly after his return from overseas following the last war she married carl heintzman they resided in tor onto and then farmed at vandorf while at vandorf mrs heintz man was a member of the york county musical festival committee and was also a competitor in the adult vocal class she was- a mem ber of the roman catholic church and had been ill for only a short time vs surviving are her husband four
