was also stricken port perry fair down the christmas market fair at port perry sponsored by the business mens association and the lion club of that town was a great disappoint ment this year although liberal prizes were offered for poultry there was very little on exhibition this goes to prove that the stouffville merchants acted wisely in not provid ing a prize list for poultry at the fair last week since it would seem there is none in the country for the rural markets we do not think the ceil ing prices had a great deal to do with the apparent shortage other than it induced the farmer to sell direct to the consumer the other contribut ing factor was that buyers went through the country purchasing fowl for the army needs and where large producers were found they bought up the output and no one can com plain about that high cost of feed may have contributed to induce some farmers not to raise geese but there was an abundance of chickens walter dickson to retire mr walter dickson
