were unfolded in uxbridge juevenile court thurs day afternoon when two 14yearold boys both wards of the boys train ing school at bowmanville and one of them now serving a sentence of six months in the ontario reforma- toiy at guelph for breaking and en tering premises at morrisburg and committing the indictable offence of theft by stealing 40 appeared be fore juvenile court judge f s ebbs on serious charges one for stealing an automobile and the other for breaking entering and stealing 60 chief corstable vesey of uxbridge informed the court that he had re ceived a call at 4 am on november 9 th that a car had been stolen from in front of the united farmers co operative stoi e in uxbridge and he related that as there hadnt been veiy much gas in the car at the time it was found at stouffville the next day he stated that a good descrip tion had been secured of the person taking the car which fitted the dt- scription of a young boy who had been put out on a nearby farm by the training school and who had been lepoited as having mn away from this faun the boy was arrest ed in hamilton two days later john j brown supeuntendent of the boys training school at bow manville was present and informed the comt that this boy had been committed to the school in march 1940 on a charge of theft let out to a faun near uxbudge on october 1st and took the car on october 9 th mr biown added that the home en vironment for the boy was far fiom happy and told the court that the patents had been sepaiated and that the boy had just learned that his mother had died about three weeks ago the boy in 1 eply to some questions dnected by the court stated that he had spent quite a bit of time in the salvation army shelter at chatham for stealing bicycles before he was committed to the training school at bowmanville and related that one time when he had chickenpox he escaped from the shelter and in the act of running away stole a truck but it ran into a ditch charles watson goodwood stated that on july 11 at least 60 was stolen fiom different paits of the house and he identified the other boy in court as one who had been working on a district farm for one or two months prior to the robbery he 1 elated that he did not know who had stolen the money and that he had seen this young boy getting on a train shortly afterwards in a very suspicious manner as if he didnt want someone to see him provincial constable geo yuile in formed the couit that the boy had been ariested in morrisburg shortly afterwards on a charge of breaking and entering a premises and commit ting the indictable offence of steal ing 40 he stated that the boy had given his age as 16 the age being corroboiated by the boys grandfa ther who lives in chesterville a town nearby and was consequently dealt with in magistrates police court in stead of juvenile court and was sen tenced to serve six months definite in guelph reformatory he stated that he had gone to guelph last sat urday and had picked up the boy on a judges order he informed the court that the boy had told him that he had spent the 60 going to ottawa the boys mother who was present suggested thatthe boy be put in the working boys home toronto so he could earn some money and make restitution she claimed that- she couldnt make restitution as her hus band was overseas his honor poin ted out that there was already a sentence to be served at guelph adding that the boy wasa ward of the training school at bowmanville mr brown informed the court that this boy had been committed to the training school in january 1942 by judge mott toronto on a charge of theft by breaking and entering in february 1942 he was let out on a farm and was returned on july 25 for stealing a bicycle a rifle and some ammunition let out again in august 1942 he took 75 from the place where he was staying and ran away coming back to the school in november let out again he ap peared in peterboro court on june 7 of this year on a charge of bicycle the opin ion that it was up to the provincial secretarys department o investi gate the case of the boy serving the term in guelph as he was only a juvenile however until such time as they take action
