services the music for the day was accompanied at the piano by miss bertie forster and at the organ by miss coral per kins the guest speaker tor the morning service was irev wright of nebraska usa the guest soloist was miss minola fisher of richmond hill the guest speaker for the ev ening was rev morrison sellers the guest soloist was mrs gladstone wilson the w a held a potluck supper on monday evening which was a great success friends were present from richmond hill browns corn ers and headford following the supper a program was given a vio lin instrumental by mrharry barber accompanied at the piano by mrs heber mccague a reading by marian boynton a quartette of girls name ly misses evelyn betty and katha- leen barber and connie rumney mr john snider gave a travelogue on his trip down south mrs reid brumwell and miss mabel sanderson then conducted a truth or conse quence contest atha news several attended the wi pot luck supper held on friday evening at altona all reported a good time mr and mrs norman lehman and son had tea monday evening with mr and mrs fred draper friends of mr norman neal will be glad to know he is improving and will soon be out again mr and mrs arnold entertained friends fiom holt on sunday teacher and pupils of atha school are planing their christmas concert the date set dec 21st mr and mrs featherston and joan visited on sunday with mr and mrs had tea with mr and mrs f draper lemon vi lle we welcome two new families to our community mr and mrs earl cook and family to their farm house in the east lane also mr and mrs peter reaman and family of gorm- ley mr and mrs elwood elson and family moved from mr earl cooks farm last week to a farm east of stouffville mr and mrs elmer ireaman of the 3th concession were sunday visi tors with mr and mrs w j reaman of gormley the young people had an enjoyable time at their halloween social last friday evening a goodly number attended but there is room for more so lets all try to be on hand this friday evening wlien we are invited to visit the second markham baptist young people capt robson was called to owen sound last week to bring a ship down to a southern port mr alger maye is assisting his father with the work for a couple of weeks peaches the miss laura warriner spent weekend at the brignall home miss margaret lewis is spending this week at emsdale mrs j ferguson and wee baby daughter returned home from the hospital on saturday mr and mrs walter brignall mot ored to barrie on sunday to visit relatives mr and mrs albert cleverdon visited toronto on saturday attend ing a show in the evening mr and mrs george hoover and mrs c gayman were sunday visit ors with mr and mrs joe gayman of stouffville mr wilmot warriner harry and jack warriner also lome hoover attended the junior farmers ban quet at richmond hill last week the wms are holding a sewing bee and pot luck dinner this tues day at the home of mr and mrs harry spang sth line quite a number of the men from our the eider mill is still running at top speed they certainly are favored with the continued mild weather and no doubt a good many appreciate the valued service of making use of the excess when other material is scarce a number of men in our commun ity have gone on their annual deer hunt in the northern district we wish them luck with good weather in spite of the unfavorable wea ther conditions a good number at tended the w i potluck supper on friday evening last the entertain ment of various musical numbers showed skill of the artists and mr goddard of claremont assisted on the program with various readings of high quality which were enjoyed an interesting feature at the close of the program was when the president mrs w carter announced the inten tion of the wi buying a victory bond and a motion was made and carried to that effect mr goddard soon had it completed gormley mrs at gooding is spending two weeks with her daughter mrs mil- sted of queensvile on behalf of her many gormley friends we extend to miss vera wil son best wishes and congratulations on her birthday last sunday mr and mrs metro sudayko of toronto visited her parents mr and mrs j t johnson on sunday miss ruth hoover left gormley last week for toronto where she will jie employed for the winter mr and mrs herb wideman and family dickson hill visited with mr and mrs les grove on sunday mr and mrs asa byers and grace toronto had dinner on monday with mr and mrs e jones miss jean brillinger and miss myrtle steckley spent the weekend in stayner the henderson sisters were guest singers at the stayner bible mr and mrs morris shupe of new dundee from thursday till saturday of last week mrs shupe returned home with her to visit for a week among friends and relatives here heise hill bible conference on nov 1415 is to be addressed by bis hop shoaltz of wellandport elder doner of shiremontown pa bishop swalm three sessions on sunday and three on monday aw2 helen steckley who is now stationed at trenton spent last weekend at her home tpr carl steckley now at newmarket camp was also home tpr milton heise of newmarket was here last week too with his wife and the millen family a very special day was enjoyed by those who attended the anniver- saiy services held last sunday at gormley mbc church all of the three services were well attended especially in the evening when about 300 people gathered it was but a touch of heaven to be able to enjoy the oldfashioned singing and preaching in the morning service rev d cairns of toronto ministered to us he set forth s characteristics of the true believer in christ and the stan dards for christian living as re vealed in ii peter 1 in the evening he gave us a stirring appeal from amos 412 rev f huson delivered the message in the afternoon our need for vineland were recent visitors with mr and mrs russell grove we congratulate mr isaac warn bold who celebrated his slst birth day on saturday mr and mrs wm wideman spent a day with friends at kitchener last week mr dave cober has returned from the hospital in toronto where he has been undergoing treatment mr joseph buikholder who is attending school in fort erie was home over the weekend mr thos blizazrd and mr edwin byer are among those now in north ern ontario hunting miss lillian morgan and friends of toronto were guests at the for mers home on sunday miss e white of the 9th line has been in the west taking train ing for a couple of weeks after which she will be stationed in otta wa a pot luck dinner and sewing bee by the ladies of peaches church was held at the home of mrs spang on tuesday after which the regular meeting of the wms was held there was a good attendance of the members and their friends stressed we were pleased to have gnr knudsen with us in the morn ing and evening to bring the min istry in song miss hazel farmer gave a selection on her piano accord- ian and g ormley quartette offered two numbers in the sunday school mrs huson in her usual interesting 6th line whitchurch mr and mrs fugh and john visited with mr and mrs c burk- holder on sunday night mr clifford lockyer had dinner on sunday at the clarke home mr and mrs chas ratcliff and kay stewart had dinner recently with mr and mrs w timbers mr and mrs f steckley and ber- nice visited in oshawa on sunday with mr and mrs watson and mr and mrs d steckley miss edith herbert spent a week with mrs j a clarke cecil lloyd was operated on fri day last in the newmarket hospital fortunately the condition of his foot is not as serious as once thought dont miss the anniversary ser vices at second markham baptist church on sunday nov 14 mr mackillop our new inspector paid a visit to ss no s on monday last the pupils of ss no s have col lected and sent to ottawa their milk weed this will be used experiment ally the 3c a pound allowed seems a small amount for the work involv ed but it is a noble contribution to the war effort sorry to hear that mrs c ratcliff has had to go to the hospital orangeville we extend a welcome to our church nov 14th mrs m connor of ballantrae is visiting at the home of her niece mrs d burnett mr and mrs canning and daugh ters and pte w cowie of toronto were at the home of their parents mr and mrs a cowie on sunday mrs w ferguson and sons were visitors at mr m barnes on monday the ladles aid meeting was held at the home of mrs r burnett with the president mrs o baker in the chair the program in charge of mrs g w brown and mrs b mor ton included a duet by mrs and miss fockler a contest by miss a fockler and a talk by mrsbmorton lunch was served by the hostess pettyofficer r davis who has been stationed in halifax and mrs davis and children of toronto were out to service on sunday morning also mrs nash of eastend saskatchewan who is visiting her sister mrs earl davis a number from here attended a farewell party at the home of mr and mrs c stafford on tuesday ev ening for mr and mrs thos farrow who have given up farming at lin- colnville and moved to their home purchased in uxbridge with mrs n rae as chairlady a very enjoy able program was given the staf ford trio mrs monk and mesdames porter and beech gave musical num bers mrs r storry and mrs tran- mer readings mrj fairies a contest the gentlemen were called on for impromptu speeches in a few well chosen words mr eldon fairies ask ed the farrows to accept as a remin der of the
