vener marion boynton a special part of the service was a talk on mission work and our installation of 1942 officers by our minister rev mr mckay misses viola and margaret avison sang a duet and mrs elmer huggins gave the scripture the many friends of mrs hamil ton who has been staying with her sisterinlaw mrs mckay are pleased to hear she is feeling better after being confined to her bed over a week with a severe cold the executive meeting of the ypu was held last thursday even ing at the parsonage a fair atten dance turned out in spite of the cold night after the business part of the meeting all enjoyed the luncheon served by mrs mckay the jr farmeis social evening which was to be hold this friday evening is to be postponed owing to the dance at buttonville and will be held the following friday night january 23rd all the older folk of the community are especially invit ed to enjoy any- evening of crockin- ole euchre and dance along with the young folk dont forget the date ififtedn girls met at the homo of their leader mrs d crosier on saturday afternoon for their second meeting to do justice to their pro ject dressing up home grown vegetables the girls enjoyed both the cooking and the testing of the vegetables they will welcome any other girls that wish to attend these days our aim is to conserve all our vegetables and by preparing them in various ways they are very the chief head and ruler of the county of york as warden we are informed that heis the popular choice of the county men which if it proves correct will elect him next tuesday at the county buildings in toronto mr toole is capable of the high post which plac es him at the head of the largest county in canada and the wealthiest this body of men over whom he will preside is the largest body of legislators in the whole province with the single exception of the on tario legislature township officers are reappointed the inaugural meeting of the ux- bridge township council was held on monday with members elected all present- edgar johnson reeve walter beach deputy reeve stuart ball harold dickinson and john m rae councillors all having been elected by acclamation after sub scribing to declaration of office they took their seats at the council aboard the rev mr william kendall of roseville uxbridge township being present upon the invitation of the reeve came before the council and after offering prayer gave the coun cil an excellent address dealing with different forms of government in this land and also in the old land ot england upon motion of messrs beach and rae the reeve extended to mr ken dall the fullest thanks of his coun cil for the splendid address given the standing committees for the year were appointed as follows iroad and bridge reeve and council re lief ball turned missionaries from nigeria spoke to the sunday school at the quarterly missionary programme last sunday 1 a very enjoyable afternoon was spent when mr harvey moyer gave a shower and tea in honour of her niece katherine last wednesday aunts great aunts and cousins were present to shower her with best wishes good advice and many lovely gifts fewer colors in paper it is becoming increasingly ap parent to printers and publishers that there is a war going on and re cently the government has stepped in to place certain regulations upon the manufacture of paper in tbe dominion paper company travellers have reported to us the acceptance 6f the regulations by their firms some of these war-time- rules which will go into force immediately every class of paper is to toe standardized all fancy finishes on bond papers is taboo there will bo no colored envelopes henceforth white en velopes can bo secured in but two weights of stock a limit has been placed on the weight of- paper to bo used for catalogues prize lists- housb organs etc colored newsprint can- be secured in but six colors in stead of the usual 13 colors only one weight can be secured of mlmeo graph paper and manllla and kraft envelopes can bo secured in but two weights colored bond paper and white bond paper has been limited to a certain weight while the num ber of colors for bond paper lias
