recent guests with mr and mrs feren goodwood siloam 2nd line glas gow altona droseville and webbs please give us your undivided at tention teachers and pupils are uxbridge farmers aroused probably one of the most glaring pieces of political manoeuvering ever enacted in this neck of the country is being put over the people of uxbridge twp and all those who are vitally interested in a hard top road from ux bridge town to stouffville so that the folks of uxbridge town and township will have an outlet to toronto the active part of the liberal association of ux bridge town only represents business interests we are told and they in conjuction with mr frank kelly mpp have persuaded the government to build a hard top road from goodwood to uxbridge and from uxbridge to greenbank the reason given for building such road in war time is that the people of uxbridge town and township have no hard road to toronto yet one knows this road will not give them a hard top road to toronto because they have left out five miles from goodwood to stouffville until that stretch is built the people of uxbridge town and township still have no direct hard road to toronto why did mr kelly and the liberal association of uxbridge town composed chiefly of business men of that town recommend and urge only a road from goodwood to uxbridge when they knew it left out the worst stretch between goodwood and stouffville the reason is obvious these men want to place a fence around their business and force the innocent farmer and townsman alike to trade in their tovn do they hope to do this by making it so awk ward to get to toronto over a good road that these people will decide to stay at home surely the interests of the people of uxbridge township will arouse the farmers to make a public protest to the hon mr mcqueston why if this piece of bad road between goodwood and stouffville is left out of the picture as it now is the political picture for the dept of highways will be a crying shame no wonder folk say politics are rotten when such a glaring piece of business is being put over this paper predicted three weeks ago when it was announced that the road was to be hard topped from good wood to uxbridge that the next piece would be built from uxbridge togreenbankleaving the five miles between good wood and stouffville unfinished of course we were right for the aim is to build not a good road to the city but a few roads into uxbridge town the department have no right to play the game for the local liberals who have no vision other than self interest we are astonished that the people of uxbridge town not interested in just building business roads do not rise up in protest and join their voices with those of uxbridge farmers who will surely be heard when they learn what is going on this paper has had representation made to it from folks actually in and around uxbridge town pointing out the things we know to be a fact respecting the attempt to build business roads for the merchants of uxbridge while keeping the great public from travelling over a hard top to toronto unless there is a change of policy announced by the department to take care of the connecting link of bad road uxbridge and scott farmers will rebel they are now organ izing tsked to lead the sports day par ade on civic holiday stouffville boys band will be on hand be sharp on time at the goodwood united church to form in line at one oclock its only women who have the right to say they never have a birth day but the men just cant keep such a thing secret and so we have great pleasure in natal day of our good friend charlio feasby who last thursday had an other of those delightful occasions charlie like all shy fellows likes to keep it secret dont tell him where you got the news other greetings go to will henderson who helped to mould the writing ability if any of the editor of this paper during his younger days will taught in ux bridge for quite a few years walter davey parade marshall is for better pigs calling all the bills calvins and other old timers around goodwood to get into line on civic holiday he wants them to bring out their flow ered vest swallow tail coat and stiff hat and the ladies to bring along the old bonnet stored up in the closet the hoop skirt and whatliaveyou give the men something to talk nnouncing the al once again they admired you in them years ago we are being assisted in parade arrangements by erma dowswell lillian brown willard clark marvyn maye con sult them for details we hear that either a public meet ing or largely signed petitions em- ploring the government to hardtop the road from goodwood to stouff ville while the machinery is on the grounds is being organized this section of road should have been done first that all could have enjoy ed the benefit the fellow living 30 miles north as well as people in the southern part of uxbridge as they travelled cityward we hear that scott farmers also are protesting against the section chosen for hard top as they want to slip down the concessions to reach the road to toronto via goodwood feed marmill i7 pig starter the feed that gets results twine coal cement central feed top road from goodwood to uxbridge is now to be continued to connect up with lindsay highway north of ux- bridge at greenbank unfortunate ly there is no politician interested in having this road connect up with stouffville so there is to be a dead end at goodwood from which point it is now being built into uxbridge the uxbridge paper reports how the issue was swung to get the de partment to continue it to green bank from uxbridge thus using his persuasive powers to good advantage mr j frank kelly mpp for muskokaontarlo pre vailed upon the department of highways to have that portion of highway no 47 which lies between goodwood and uxbridge hard sur faced and the work was commenced a short time ago with the work of laying gravel being completed last friday and the gravel gang of the jupp construction co getting ready to pull out for blackstock uxbridge would again he left without an out let to any highway via a hard sur faced road mr kelly got in touch with hon g conant attorney necessity of completing the work started by mr kelly while the equipment was on the job and assured them of his heartiest support with the result that the department of highways have decided that the road shall be continued to meet with highway no 12 a mile below greenbank and uxbridge will have an inlet into the town at long last while the resi dents of the north part of reach township will also
