park altona vandorf everyone in this district is happy over the welcome and much needed showers during the past week our ypu excursion was very successful the day was fine hence fourteen from our church took this opportunity of seeing the falls and meeting with others in the presby- ery last saturday they did not get the rain we enjoyed mr and mrs russel sproxton and family and mr marshal brillinger motored to stayner on sunday and arrived in time to enjoy the baptist chucli service there they spent the remainder of the day with relatives and friends crop conditions are very poor over there compared to ours in spite of our dry spell junior farmers picnic the annual york county junior farmer picnic and dance was held at musselmans lake on friday and despite a few showers of much- needed rain in the afternoon it was a very successful event all the sports except softball had to be cancelled but five teams of tall players each representing a junior farmer and junior institute iub displayed much enthusiasm in a softball tournariient the unionville team emerged the victor of the day lunch this year was supplied by the junior farmer association in stead of the individual baskets of previous years the dance in the evening was well attended with max boags tenpiece orchestra in attendance reeve wm reesor attended coun ty council at whitby last week mr and mrs arthur wagg and family were visiting with her par ents mr and mrs n bunker on monday mr and mrs grant baker and daughter of rosedale are spendin a few days visiting relatives mr and mrs a davis and esther were guests of mr and mrs ernie davis bloomington on sunday we are sorry to report that 11- yearold joy alsop has been very sick and had to be taken to the hospital a number of ladles met at the home of mrs d crosier on thursday last to quilt the school childrens pieced top as a project for our war work we are sorry to hear that oscar hutchison had to go to the general hospital for xray treatment we hope he will soon be able to return home green river pte george irickard and pte jim rickard are home on furlough from petewawa corporal don williams has left for overseas good luck don and many happy returns of your birth day june 17th the ladles aid held their meeting this week at mrs e forsyths home mr roy carter and mr t williams with frank and george motored to camp borden on sunday what a lovely rain we had on sun day just what we needed so much mrs 0 madul spent thursday afternoon last week with friends in markham congratulations to mr and mrs john nighswander who celebrated their twentythird wedding anniver sary on june 12th many happy returns to mrs gor don lehman- her birthday is on june the 17th the whitby lindsay association of baptists churches will be held this year at green river next week on june 25th to 2th friends from all the sixteen churches are most heartily welcome 5th line uxbridge mr and mrs cbartes symes of brooklin called on the walter symes home on saturday evening mr and mrs c graham clifford and heather of toronto soent sun day with mr and mr elmer evans mr and mrs d noncn ivan norton and hebron klson were sunday guests with mr and mrs harold xorton mr and mrs andrew ashenhurst of the 4th line spent sunday with mr and mrs clayton hill mr kenneth evans of toronto called on friends on this line over the weekend mr and mrs andrew wilson call woodhouse and boy friend spent sunday with her par ents dickson hill wms- reorganize the womens missionary society of the dicksons hill mbc church was held last week at the home of mrs a stouffer 9th concession this event marked the annual re- oi sanitation of this society the reports given were eneouragin showing a good missionary interest and a lively concern for the war sufferers of england much sewing and knitting had been accomplished for the later need and plans were made to continue this timely work throughout the coming year the pastor conducted the election of officers which was as george gower mrs gordon holden and a m grove attended the funeral of their cousin the late george powers at stayner on friday mr powers wa3 killed instantly when struck by a car on the highway mr and mrs leslie reid intend moving to baltimore this week where they are taking over the gen eral store owned by mrs reids father who is in poor health mr topping our road foreman has rented the house and lot vacated by mr and mrs reid and expects to move in the last of the week dicksons hill miss doris lott was home sunday miss kay radford and harry bran- wednesday evening at home mr and mrs george gower mr at w halls atj abe grove and mrs g haldou of stouffville attended the funeral of air george powers of sunnidale son of the late john powers who was instantly killed in a motor crash sunday morning the quarterly communion service for this field was held at mount joy with rev mr bricker the presiding elder in charge mr bricker also spoke at the evening service here miss martha hoover was given a surprise visit on her birthday last wednesday by her sister mrs dan wideman and her nieces mrs roy moyer mrs charles hoover mrs maurice eby mrs elmore barkey and grandnephew gordon mr ken brubacher and children of stouffville are spending a week with rev and mrs isaac brubacher in gormley rev and mrs a t gooding eileen and evelyn had tea on satur day night with mr and mrs ward hallman of dicksons hill mr george hilts has made wonder ful progress since his operation and on monday we were surprised to see him out in his gladioli and peony garden mr i brubacher and his mother also mrs harry bonnet and imr perry edwards called on vera wil son at the weston hospital last thursday mrs lome baker enjoyed a visit with her grandmother mis thomas khnck also mr and mrs h 0 klinck of attended and prices were good throughout the sale totalled over 1300 although it was mostly implements and furni ture the late mr brillinger died suddenly there a few weeks ago and there was no one to carry on the business mr brillinger came from toronto last year and took over what vas known as the gillham farm on the sth concession a s farmer auctioneer did the selling 2nd line uxbridge stewart mr harry hope of toronto is ill his many friends on this line hope for a speedy recovery some folks have all the luck and some have bad luck anyway albert brown of mongolia a former resident on our
