satisfies firefighters request to pay for practices members of the stouffville fire brigade and the village council arrived at an amicable agreement on monday evening when the two bodies met to discuss a request put forth by fire fighters some time ago for more pay for the fire chief and pay for practises by the members of the brigade it was decided to give chief del jennings 5000 per year as a retainer plus pay for attending fires with other members while the members will be allowed 100 per practise for five practises per year money for practises will come out of the firemens fund accumulated from answering outside calls chief del jennings said he did not come before council in a hostile spirit tor in the six years he had been chief he never asked for any equipment that was denied him men feel that if we are to have a brigade there must be practises per haps four or five a summer the only way to get the boys out is to pay them something for their services he said as for himself mr jennings said that if the council could get anyone for less than 5000 they were at liberty to do so reeve weldon said he and council had always cooperated with the brigade and wanted to do anything within reason then- suggested that the firemens fund raised from an swering outside calls could be used for paying all but the chief which he said council would take care of the brigade have william hayes and harriet retallick her husband predeceased her in 193g and ber only son milton in 1929 she is survived by her daughter mrs e e ball of king ston one granddaughter dorothy ball of finest machines of its kind in use and can be operated at a fraction of the cost of gasoline driven machines the new machine will be assembled at paris ontario and will be de livered to the township in 30 days the argument that council had to submit this issue to the vote of the ratepayers proved to be a false stand and the provincial engineer peter hlggins has given his full approval for the purchase which must be approved as well by the department of municipal affairs it is planed to issue debentures for tho payment of thisr account spread over five years the govern ment will pay half the cost of tho plow and chains this year and half the cost of the machine spread over tho working hours of the machine that is they will allow the township something like 65c per hour for every hour the machine is working until they have paid their half of the total cost in addition dept pays half the cost of all road work on its arrival the malntainer will go right to work improving the side- meeting of the curling club is called for tuesday april 15 at 8 pm in the rink ira aldred pres people of stouffville donate 1200 to local war services campaign stouffville has made a freewill offering of 1200 in cash to the war services campaign the money was collected last week by the teams who were assigned the duty of mak ing the canvas on monday evening there was reported in cash and pledges 1185 with several donations promised in cash which will easily top tho 1200 mark once again the good people of this village have shown their patriotic spirit and stories were told by canvassers where
