clear the ditches as some did get in rather deep we regret separating from our well known residents and their family namely mr and mrs max fines who are leaving here to make their home in aurora their friends and neighbours gathered last thurs day to show their esteem mr and mrs j l abell the temperature dropped to 14 below zero on tuesday morning j 1 barrett our local harness- maker has been confined to bed for some days with an attack of pleurisy last friday evening the boys and girls from five to twelve years of age presented a beautiful program of sacred songs and stories in our kingwood church under the guidance of imr s if cockburn who organ- zed this group about a year ago at the close of the program the child ren presented a lovely reversible blanket and pair of pillow cases to mr and mrs cockburn whose leadership they will miss so greatly melville mrs jamieson edna jaques was a guest at the manse during her stay in tliis community the heavy snowstorm compelled cancellation of sunday services at peachs and melville on sunday last but we hope that both lanes and roads will be open by this coming sunday to permit having our com munion services a fairly large audience gathered in the melville church on thursday evening to hear edna jaques the canadian poet and entertainer mrs jamieson popularly known as edna jaques gave a story of her life many years of which were spent in the driedout area of saskatchewan her poems reflected the varied experien ces of her life and among them were several which revealed a close obser vation of current events a large number of her poems have been published in attractive book form and several copies were sold at the close imrs russell of unionville ad ded to the evenings enjoyment by rendering some wellchosen solos accompanied by mrs english of browns corners after the concert the guests were enter by mem bers of the womans association at the manse church hill miss amy lageer was home on sunday mr roy thompson road conditions there was no service in peachs church last sunday lome harper and jim maynard attended the red cross euchre at onionville on friday night mr walter brignall has a white collar job of a road 50 years or more ago before snow plows were used and the heavy traffic is just muddling through it is reported that the county snow plow had broken down but an auxiliary was at work tues day saturday mrs levi hoover has left our community for the winter and is staying with her son charles at unionville miss velma brilinger spent sun day with miss miriam heise at vic toria square quite a number are planning to attend the bible conference at the wideman church this week if roads conditions are favorable mr and mrs a t gooding eileen ruth and vernon motored to gait on saturday and returned on sunday evening there was quite a lot of snow but they were fortunate in that all went well and they didnt get stuck till they arrived in new gormley when the belt on the threshing machine at harry whites suddenly broke it struck ralph baker assist ing with the threshing with such force he was knocked unconscious bsfore the flopping belt was stopped fortunately the injury is not serious and ralph will soon be on the job again the special ovengelistic meetings at the imonnonite church have been well attended and we have been re volving some very stirring messages from miss macdonald and missfrie- son of the faith pilgrims some families came three and four miles last week never missing a night and although sunday found the roads very bad both afternoon and oven- ing services found the church well over half full while wo are encountering snow to a dopth of twelve inches and zero weather we are made to think of our friend in california where the temperature reads 95 degrees at noon and where a sweater is too much wraps to have one snow snow and more snow is the order of the season saturdays storm must be a gentle reminder thai winteh is on its way some of the lady drivers are not very well pleas ed as it will keep them at home more or will it those who had to attend the toronto markets had some unusual experiences some had to shovel and others to to bo shoved of course
