gostick highly respected resident of stouffvllle thomas c gostick died at his residence here on friday afternoon following a prolonged illness he was in his slst year a native of pickering township and a son of the late thomas gos tick he was born on a farm on the 7th line which had been in the family for more than 100 years the farm is at present occupied by an only surviving brother fred mr gostick continued to farm in pickering township until his re tirement some five years ago when he took up residence in stouffville he was a baptist serving as a deacon in the claremont baptist church for more than 50 years an cfiice which he held up to the time of his death mr gostick was married twice and is survived by his second wife formerly louise jane wright and one daughtej mrs charles stony and two sons charles and frank all of pickering the gostick family have adhered to the baptist tfaith for generations the father of the deceased was a local preacher while his grand father was an ordained baptist preacher he had a small church in pickering which stood near the site of the present old gostick cemetery he is remembered for his outstand ing work among young people an old friend of the family and formerly of claremont irev a r park of aurora preached the funeral service on monday after noon from the baptist church rev wdaniels claremont officiated assisting were rev d days he was employed here at the ratcliff store for 16 years then there was present sylvanus the baby of the family aged 70 j w and john m madill are both widow ers but sylvanus was accompanied by mrs madill mr madills two daughters mrs zellers and mrs fossey toronto also four of his five sons were pre sent for the birthday event the sons are oliver w madill well known merchant at altona henry ernest and earl all in toronto the other son lives in western canada there are 2s grand children and 8 great grandchildren and most of them were on hand to do honor to their esteemed father and grand father who was taken by complete surprise it was the last thing he would have guessed this birthday party but there he found himself in the midst of his admirers and be fore them all he blew out the
