milroys on sunday the girls started with their opening ball game last week with locust hill as visitors our girls were very well satis fied with the score by which they were beaten good luck to locust hill but well be back to see you again mr abe reesor has returned home from new york where he visited the worlds fair abe says the girls are plenti ful down there and well worth going to see of course the fair was wonderful too he says our boys ball team went to markham on monday night of this week and came home with a score of 65 in their favor cheer up markham well see what we can do about the quartette sang and mr and mrs lehman rendered an effective duet and harley wide- man played a selection on his trombone our missionary superinten dents mrs clifford and mrs william baikey arranged a very interesting program last sunday morning essays were read by miss eleanor moyer on education in the mission field and ross wideman on the value of- medical work in con nection with missions music was supplied by the giils class and the dickson hill male quartette not every community can boast of three persons by the same lrame and we suppose there are various ways of distinguishing them we speak of the jacob groves little jacob son of levi grove had the misfortune of breaking his arm and an other jacob is nursing an injur ed hand with three broken fin gers he is a son of the late abe grove who for many years served on the school board and who paid friendly visits to the school usually at christmas time we wish them both a speedy recovery and also hope that jacob gove grandfather of little jacob and cousin of the second mentioned jacob will es- cape any ill fortune goodwood mr and mrs h beaver visit ed her mother mrs c harper mrs f woodland intends to be in toronto next week the sports day there will be a meeting next monday night at 8 pm note the time and be prompt as the hall is engaged for another meeting at 9 our softball team played the postponed game with uxbridge last friday night winning out by 146 they also beat stouff viue 2116 next tuesday night stewarts team from uxbridge will be met there by goodwood and then we play ashworth the united church supper on tuesday night was well at tended despite the slip in last weeks paper which wasnt the correspondents fault by any means however no one could miss the supper if they were in terested at all and any who failed to attend missed a great treat the concert was good too and provided real entertain ment president middleton of the middleton clan looks for about 500 to assemble at claremont park on july 1st for the annual reunion it is fitting they should meet in pickering twp for it was here the clan first settled 150 years ago coming from the british isles sports of all kind are arranged for and a special invitation goes out to bring your basket and come prepared for a good time melville mr and mrs carson wide- man motored to penetang over the weekend the melville choir are invited to furnish next sunday june 25th will be the farewell sermon of the rev j mcewen who has accep ted the call to schomberg unit ed church where the mcewens will be moving next week the induction service for our new minister rev orr will be held friday june 30th we hope the strawberries will be plentiful next wednes day june 28th for melville ex- pedt a real nice gettogether that night in the rose hill park at cashel there will be a nusi- cal program and lots of straw berries and cream for only 25c and 15c mrs p steckley had the pleasure qf entertaining over the weekend miss mcqueen her old school teacher who taught her in the bygone days at stayner miss mcqueen is now teaching near newmarket mr and mrs asa byer and mr george grainger all of stayner also visited steckleys on sun day there were twenty at the home of mr and mrs earl tate on monday evening for a birth day party in honor of mrs n houck the guests were mr and mrs h houck dan thorn- hill and bobbie vanwie mr and mrs p puterbaugn and family mr and mrs w quantz of stouffviue and others the party marked the 10th annual gathering to pay due respect and hononr to mrs houck who has reached the grand age of 83 years young and still very active ringwood mr and mrs roy grove at tended the croser malloy wed ding at altona last thursday ed brownsberger along with his helpers is busy erecting the barn on the rodanz farm mrs ralph burkholder spent a few days recently in toronto mrs sel abell of toronto spent monday with mrs j l abell a visitor through here on tuesday from south carolina said that a farmer in his state around kingstree and h morris by name hunted everywhere for his cow finally located her secured to a young sapling in a bush near his pasture land she had switched her tail and tied it so secure that he had to cut- the little tree himself to set the cow free the recent auction sale at burnbrae farms was not largely attended as it was not adver tised in the local district the cub bear on the corner is more popular than the county police who have been checking up around here again for de faulting motorists but the limb of the law are a gentlemanly lot just the same our people are in for a real time next monday evening june 26 when rev j w knight and mrs knight missionaries will provide a missionary program they will tell of life clown in jamaica where they have done mission ary work for ten years every body who can come is heartily welcome to attend our christian endeavour meeting on this occasion peaches mrs c cayman of almira visited at the hoover home last wednesday mrs henry walker had tea with mrs painter on tuesday the wms of peaches church presented mrs mcewen with a quilt at their meeting last tues day we are sorry to lose mrs mcewen as she was such a willing worker in our society but what is our loss will be schombergs gain mr and mrs i s wideman and lome motored to zephyr on sunday mr and mrs l grove had sunday dinner with mr and mrs geo hoover dont forget peachs s s
