with jnother ear of western horses lawrence pope is spending a few days with his father at lake joseph where he is in charge of the cnr station mr fred thompson and two sons of montreal mr and mrs h sutton of mt dennis mr and mrs bill thompson of mt dennis and mi and mrs frank thompson visited with mr jabez thompson and mary over the weekend mr and mrs currie and miss currie of clarksburg mr and imxa atkins of heathcote also relatives from box grove aurora and bloomington visited with mr an mrs john beach one day last week probably one of the linest corn fields that could be found in ontario this summer is the one at clarence doners place the field has stalks 12 feet high and they run from this great height down to seven and eight feet where it is shortest and that isnt so short either donors corn field is ten acres of wonderful crop our little village is now equipped with a chopping mill and cider mill the two units are being completed rapidly by the proprietor frank harvey the industry comprises two separate buildings and will un doubtedly be a busy place as the days go along our farmers have harvested ex cellent fall wheat crops and pota toes are turning out well although the price is quite low our largest producer is roy brillinger rev herbert and mrs shantz have returned to their home her after being so suddenly called to roseville near kitchener where mrs shantzs father henry schrieb er died with tragic suddenness on the day of his demise he worked in the harvest field all through then had supper and helped to milk large herd of cows and feed the pigs it was after nine oclock when his duties were complete and by ten oclock he was dead a sudden hear attack took him away inside of ten minutes he was a man in his bsth year and a member of the old mennonite body besides his vyif four sons and four daughters sur vive they being mrs shantz of gormley miss elizabeth at home miss margaret in gait mrs pfohl of bright and formerly of gormley the sons are harold of gait edwin of ayr henry of williamsburg and milton of port elgin the late mi schrieber was laid to rest in the lutheran cemetery at kitchener our community about gormley extend sincere a most tolerant mood last saturday for despite the fact that they had plenty of municipal business to transact they listened to a delega tion of ratepayers from lake wilcox for more than two hours headed by president audersou of the lake association the group talked every thing from nuddism to garbage collection frank pritchard was the chief spokesman he asked for better parking arrangements life saving equipment at the beach dust layer an investigation into the charges for garbage collection due notice of all lands in the lake area offered for sale to meet tax arrearages and earlier notification of yearly taxes reeve toole outlined his policy about dust layer which is that it is available to farmers or cottageis at a nominal cost many had taken advantage of the arrangement he said and the township itself had spent around 1000 as their share if a better arrangement could be de vised for next year mr toole said he was willing to consider it bur for this year there could be no change in policy the reeve also promised to look into the cause of garbage collection mounting in cost this last year over the previous years he said the council would follow up the protest made by the ratepayers to the de partment asking for a reduction of the speed limit around the lake a bylaw passed to regulate this traffic had been turned down previously by the department but now that the people had protested direct the reeve promised to cooperate with them deputy reeve cook promised co operation in obtaining lifesaving equipment and councillors leary kidd and wells also assured the
