tax which the public school ratepayers in han over will lose this is the first practical case we have had any information of and would tend to indicate that there will be little difference made in the smaller municipalities while in places like stouffville where we have no corporations liable tor tho school tax it has no direct bearing last saturday august 29th pearl janet miller daughter of mr and tribune aug 20 this section of the country was suffering from the greatest drought ever experienc ed in ontario however the follow ing day august 21 a most wel come rain fell and since it got started we have been blessed with frequent showers too late for the grain harvest tis true but none the less a great help for the root crop and pasture lands which were burn ed and dried up so that farmers were compelled to feed dairy cows in the stables there is a shortage of feed on many farms as a result of the summer drought but the pro vince over the supply is considered ample as some sections had plenty of rain locally the situation in this regard is spotty midnight frolic sunday september 6th at 1201 featuring frank busseri and his orchestra dancing saturday september 5th cedar beach dance exiplains some people will be- amazed to know that just at this season of the year there is a serious shortage of bottles among dairies and enquiry shows it to be the case here in stouffville and why a shortage at this particular time of year you ask well its pickling season and believe it or not it is fairly well conceded that some householders divert the dairy bottle to the job of holding pickles this is not only an offense against the law tor which there is a penalty tout a rather unthinking piece of tousiness it is hardly conceivable that there are so many people in a community of this class that the dairies are actually running short of bottles and may be put to big expense to buy in an additional supply here in stouffville we are buying milk below prices obtained in the aver age place and it is up to each and every patron to minimize the ex pense their dairyman is put to one penso their dairymen is put to one of tho heavy ones is the purchase of now bottles when auctioneer a s farmer dispersed the household goods be longing to the estate of the late joel nendick at the old homo on obrien avenue last saturday after noon the curtain was virtually run down on a household which had ex isted there for 42 years back about 1894 the progressive and purpose ful joel nendick and his wife had built for themselves by eli ramor the present frame structure in which they lived until death separ ated the couple when mr nendick passed on a few years ago the aged widow now living with her children in toronto is incapitated through bad eyesight and will never be ablo to live alone just as all things come to an end this beloved old home having served its day arid generation is now dispersed for ever it is not without regrets we dislike to see old homes broken up special meet ing to discuss plans to aleviate the situation contractors and other interested citizens were invited and the reeve will interview premier hepburn about the matter we believe a similar situation obtains in markham village and here in stouffville when one is looking for small modern home with all con veniences for which there seems a brisk demand building costs are too high for the rents obtainable in small towns to induce contractors to build homes for rental purposes an interesting garden party and reception was held at the summer home of mr and mrs george dowell at musselmans lake last week in honor of mr and mrs r j george mr and mrs fred george and family of denver colorado former well known residents of stouffville they are spending a vacation visiting relatives and old s10000 to the york county hospital new market a further sum of 10000 is left conditionally for a war mem orial in newmarket to cost 540000 presumably tho town or someone else will have to put up the rest of the shot that it is a good policy to look ahead with ones finances is an im portant and profitable for a muni cipality as it is for the individual a case in point is shown this week when the village of stouffville is paying its entire county levy of s55ss60 instead of delaying tho payment until the end of the year by advancing the amount now a dis count is allowed of 78 which is quite an
