satur day morning it was mr joe mow- der of toronto who with mrs mowder was visiting at the home of his mother on queen street it so happened that the mowders had just returned from basking in the man and on finding the goods in his cart reported to the tribune mr brown wishes to publicly thank mr wright for his honesty it was a case of the wright car being the wrong car for mr brown to put his with bing crosby christmas greetings mel tindall of altona and his two small sons escaped what might have been a fatal accident when his truck was struck by the toron to passenger train at 1015 monday morning mr tindall was driving west on main street but failed to pay any attention to the train pull ing in to the depot with the bell clanging he was struck midship the caboose of his truck being smashed as well as the front end how the driver and the two little chaps escaped with only a few scratches is a marvel mr tindall sustained 2 broken ribs the number of accidents at this crossing is con siderable but strange to say most of them happen when cars travel ling west collided with trains com ing into the depot from toronto which location gives a car driver tho longest vision up the track if one is travelling east the view up and down tho tracks is obscured by a gasoline station on the south side and by box ears on the north side probably because the view- poorer going east motorists display more caution the united consumers association will hold another meeting in the municipal hall stouffville next thursday evening the organization hopes to sell sufficient shares in this district to warrant coming into the locality a similar meeting held some time ago was not sufficiently enthusiastic for the scheme as to sell much stock and another effort will be made to have the local farm ers subscribe to the organization mr cephas roach of melford sash has been visiting with his undo mr jos cooney in town and with other relatives in whitchurch mr roach was raised in happy new year pl golden phone 263 1 door east of stouffville library judging from the discussion heard at the last meeting of stouffville municipal council that body favors the purchase of a new bell or the erection of tho old one on some elevated position over the fire hall to the installation of sirens reove sanders and one or two members expressed an opinion on the matter tho objection to sirens they say is that they are apt to refuse to work and that at least three would have to be installed to be 100 per cent satisfactory these members who favor a bell are also of tho opinion that if a bell is sounded by an electric apparatus from the operator just pressing a button it would give forth more noise than when the gong is pulled by a rope in the hands of tho operator councillor brillingor condemned the present bell as useless and is not likely to agree to using it a now bell would probably cost 300 or 400 plus the erection of a satisfactory standard to raise it on sirens would cost more than a bell but the question of cost should not enter into the matter too much lets have the best whatever that la api from that angle only should tho c uncil view the matter bells do seem to bo antiquated as ore alarms and all places changing today go to the sirens however 1t it is demon strated that a bell can be made to do the job well no one will kick very much this fact howover should be demonstrated before council goes to the troublo of erect ing a standard or high platform the reeve reports that a further demonstration of the siren will like ly be given by another firm which has been invited to come hero at their convenience the village nomination meeting will be held in ratcliffs hall next monday evening dec 30 ratepay ers should be giving some thought as to who is to fill the vacancy in the council caused by the announced reirement of councillor arthur weldon there may be others who wish to retire but so far no an nouncement has been made by members of the school board or council there seems however no agitation for any change and in all probability those who served in office last year may receive an acclamation there is a real lack of candidates with new blood and this would tend to leave the im pression that the ratepayers are well satisfied with the manner in which the business of the village has been carried on by reeve sanders and his council and by chairman freel and his board in connection with school matters nevertheless lets have a good turnout of rate payers monday evening to hear the issues discussed mr and mrs harold a street and lifted all the parcels which had only recently been de posited in tho rear seait and vhich represented gifts for mr klincks family having placed the armful of goods in the car and locking the door mr- klinck proceeded on foot to do more business elsewhere it was not until he reached home that evening the goods were missed for ho did not check them over as he returned to the car to drive home it would appear the parcels were stolen by some person or per sons with a skeleton key who had seen the owner leaving his car when the owner reached a safe dis tance the thief would casually step up and unlock the door giving every apperance to to tho passersby as tho owner of the car mr klinck says he has one wish and that is tho contents of the parcels will find their way into a really needy home it lis has any further thought on the matter the insurance agent is not making it public seasons greetings christmas draws near and as 1935 comes to a close wo ause for a moment to
