tokal services for dread cancer as far back as the year 1d27 a committee of physicians was ap pointed by the american society for the control of cancer to report on the best methods of improving ser vices for cancer patients after very careful study the committee con sidered that the prime factor in the fare of cancer patients was special training it is obvious that what the committee had in mind was early diagnosis surveys and reviews of conditions in canada and in the united states reveal deficiencies in the facilities for diagnosis in special equipment of hospitals and particularly in the provision of men experienced and skilled in the surgical and radio logical treatment of cancer during recent years a very definite effort has been made to improve these condi tions in canada through a more complete organization of cancer ser vices efforts arc directed towards ihe establishment of cancer institutes which are fully equipped for di agnosis treatment research and ed ucation of students and specialists the establishment of special cancer hospitals is an idea which is aimed at and such hospitals will doubt appear in our midst ere long the organization of special cancer services in general hospitals thro ughout the provinces is being pro ceeded with tile object being to con centrate the control of such patients in order to improve the diagnosis and treatment eftort is being dir ected towards increasing the num ber of pathologists who are capable of making microscopic examinations of tumours and differentiating them the prime essential for improving facilities for the
