to rural consumers in order to make rural electric ser vice possible in districts which otherwise could not be served has resulted in the construction of over 9200 miles of rural lines to serve over 62000 rural consumers locat ed in various parts of the province so general has become the use of electric power for rural service throughout the province that in many districts it is considered an economic necessity and based on past experience the commission has for some time been considering the reduction of the term of rural contracts at a recent meeting the com mission decided to recommend to tho councils of the townships in which rural hydroelectric service is supplied that rural electric servico has become so wellestablished as to justify them reducing the term of all existing and future rural con tracts from 20years to 5years upon the conditions of a letter now being forwarded to these municipalities which reads as follows the commission has for some time been considering the reduction of tho term of the rural contracts and at its meeting on april 13th 1934 approved ot recommending to tho municipalities that all existing and future rural contracts be for a period of 5years from the date on which the customer commenced to take and use electric energy instead of 20years as at present the con tracts will continue in force after the 5 year period has expired on a yeartoyear basis unless cancelled by one years notice in writing by either party after tho expiration ot the 5year period it is provided however mat this change shall not take effect un less and until the icouncils of all or the various townships forming part of each rural power district pass bylaws approving of such amend ments in existing and future rural power contracts should your councils decide to approve of the suggestion of the commission in regard to this matter it will be in order for them to pass a bylaw approving of this amend ment in the power agreements be tween their township and since confederation and advocated the return of liberal rule under the banner of imr mitchell hepburn the youthful courageous and fearless leader in ontario and w l mackenzie king at ottawa which he claimed the people were waiting for the opportunity dr mclean of woodbvidge who was nominated for the presidency was elected by acclamation as the 1st vicepresident and assured all his wholehearted support stirring address by morgan baker morgan baker liberal candidate for the provincial riding of north york delivered a remarkable and stirring address which was greeted with great applause after compli menting col mulock for his gallant efforts in the last dominion election and mr slaght kc one of ontarios foremost orators mr baker expressed his stand on the temperance situation having met the temperance federation of north york the same day he declared he wanted to make his stand in the matter publicly that all may known he personally felt such a question should never bo a political issue mr baker is of the finest type of men and all are assured he will act according to the wishes of the people he represents if elected we have a government in ontario in which the people have no confidence mr baker declared there is no hope for a restoration of confidence till a new govern ment is put in instead ot attempting to correct abuses which the govern ment in a largo measure is re sponsible for they are seeking to justify themselves on every platform wo hear ithem saying wo make no apology for anything wo have done and wo intond to carry on in tho future as we have in the past that means if mr henry is elected they will pay the airds 50000 of our money for no purpose at all they will pay 251000 for property which cost its previous owner less than 2000 they will contlniio to buy hydro from private interests at 15 and sell back to those from whom they bought it for 5 in order to get rid of the huge surplus it moans they aro going to rotain in ollico the thinking more of their own class he declared in closing morgan bak er asked for the liberals and every one wanting a square deal to bring back a liberal administration col mulock speaks col w p mulock was greatly in spired and impressed with the friendly way in which the business was carried out heartfelt tribute was paid to the memory of many former liberal workers and supporters chief among which were the late edith sangster of stouffville and verne oano of newmarket and many others reference was made of the jerry mandering of the ridings by the tory government r b bonnet after the next election will wish no never heard of north york said col mulock since the last election the bennett government has been jerrymandering in north york and tho people will express their verdict when the time comes he said printed by everyone of its publish ers and i recall none newsier than the last one i have seen the tribune is certainly a fine local weekly newspaper not stingy in giving ample space to recording the
