open second as relief measure the second concession of whit church from wilcox lake to the markham townline may be opened this summer the work to be done as a relief measure this was the decision of the whitchurch council at a special meeting held last week to consider the question of summer relief through taking advantage of the offer of the dominion and pro vincial governments to each pay a third of any moneys spent in this way for labor not more than 25 families are on relief and most heads of these families will be absorbed by the farmers in their respective locali ties for the summer there is how ever a strong demand to have that part of the second opened all the way through for horse drawn vehicles instead of only a small portion of it as at present one difficulty confronting the pro posal is that the men on relief live in scattered sections from each other and they would have to be gathered up each day and take to the place of the work it was decided to take the necessary steps to obtain governmental help in case it is found after further consideration advis able to proceed with the job mrs ramer gone aged 87 years easter services victoria square 4th line uxbridge most powerful and efficient ever- to be placed in a ciiotfolot the power plant incidentally is of a most in teresting typo and is the outcome of three solid years of research and testing the purpose of all this was to provido smoothness and quietness and tho results seem to be really romarkable the parsonage lemonville dear mr editor may i take this opportunity of inviting the readers of the tribune to make good friday a day of quiet meditation and personal examin ation it is only natural that to us christian people christmas should be a day of happy family reunions and easter a day of triumphant re joicing and likewise good friday should be a day of sadness as we remember once again tho suffering and agony of our lord on the cross of calvary as honourable men and women we should not accept the blessings of our presentday ichrist- ian civilization without remember ing with deep humility and reverence and with gratitude the sacrifice of jesus of nazareth iwho is to us both lord and christ most of us will be going about our ordinary duties on good friday that is as it should be hut as we are engaged in them let us imagine that we v6x0 alive at the time of the crucifixion and let us ask ourselves where we would have been would we have been among the self- righteous selfcomplacent phari sees who refused to accept jesus be cause ho revealed their insincerity and lack of love would we have i been among the sadducees who holding the reins of power and possessing the influence which comes from wealth demanded the silencing of this voice that made them feel uneasy would we have beon one of tho mob who like the unthinking masses of every ago follow the agitator and crucify the christ or perchance we would just have beon dull and heartless and unthinking like the soldiers who could brazenly go on with their games while the lord of life suffer ed there on tho nearby cross or would we nave been among tho few scattered disciples who hung their heads in grief that this best of all men should suffer so and would it have come homo to us that christ did it because he loved us and gave himself for us and then i feel sure the love of god will be rovealed to us and on this day of days wo too shall feel our hearts strangely warmed yours truly ajc kell who says spring is here miss dorothy pointon spent sun day with miss esther davis miss hilda madill spent a day last
