mrs lehman and mr john r hoover of altona aro the only surviving child ren mr hoover who is s4 years young was able to bo present at the gathering and also mrs hoover and what a good time they did have many childhood memories wero recalled by tho brother and sister which were both serious and witty a full table welcomed them when thoy entered tho dining room for dinner and mrs lehman made the remark vyou havo gouo to so much bother over us when her brother spoke up iu his witty but sober way well were worth it which caused a hearty laugh from all it was just like christmas to see the hot goose and goodies on th table and among these sat the beautiful birthday cake which mrs peter steckley of almira brought iu that morning all as a surprise after dinner an enjoyable time was spent in conversation and sing ing misses marjorie doreen and gladys lehman and luella gaynian rendered several beautiful quartettes and then all joined in singing the lovely old familiar hymns which old and young sang heartily those present included mr and mrs john r hoover of altona mr and mrs thomas myers and son benson of zepher imr and mrs j s wideman and son claronco of peachs corners mr and mrs jos gayman and luella of stouffville mr and mrs geo baker of gormley mrs harvey houck of cashel mr and mrs willis lehman and family and imr harmon lehman who are at the old home with mrs lehman when evening camo and the friends wore leaving they all thought that they had certainly had a good day the memories of which would linger with them for a long time chautauqua to return in 1934 among the churches an old folks home for gormley mrs c g wideman has recently purchased the large residence form erly owned by jhe late alfred brillinger in gormley west and is making some extensive changes with the object of making this a home for elderly people who may be left without naterial support and home whilemrs wideman is taking tho initative inthis benevolence it is hoped and4xpected that the brethren in chris church in canada will later assume tho supervision and support yef this project as a church institution it is also expected that commenc ing about the beginning of the new year a bible course for a period of three months will be given at this place under competent instructors especially for young people the canadian chautauquas aro again coming to stouffville having been booked up last week by a number ot citizens to present a two night chautauqua during tho fall season of 1934 iu addition to tho evening programs which aro two weeks apart instead of nightly there will bo two afternoon programs the contract signed hero for tho chautauqua in 1930 was for 750 a sum which looks fabulous today but tho present ono is not so pretentious and carries a guarantee of only 234 it is generally concod ed that chautauqua brings a class of entertainment that would other wise not bo possible to present in tho smaller places if it wore not for the cooperation of tho public spirited citizens who act as guarantors it was aimed to obtain 15 in stouff ville but twenty wero signed up by miss dale tho travelling representa tive of canadian chautauqua hero is the list of tho coun ty council last week when the motion by deputy reeve william lumloy of york township calling for a reduction of members ot council camo up for further dis cussion the motion calls for the reduction of representation to ono from each municipality on tho vote tho resolution was defeated by an overwhelming majority tho municipality of east york township the second largest in tho county of york has only two repre sentatives on the council and is sup posed to havo four votes said reeve r loslio speaking on the motion imost of the questions are decided by a show of hands and it would
