daughterinlaw gathered to cele brate her seventieth birthday on monday evening july 24 mrs bas ton has not been long home from lockwood clinic where she under went a serious operation and could not stand too much commotion hence a quiot time was enjoyed congratulations are here extended to both mrs ba3ton and mrs wagg water supply is back to normal following the shortage of water in tho town reservoirs as reported in our last issue the situation is now changed since the last issue of the home town paper men have been at work under instructions from the water committee of the council and have been able to in crease the flow from the four wells and a coffer dam to such an extent that the reservoirs are again filled with the desired refreshing liquid in view ot the fact that the res ervoirs filled during the extreme dry spell it is ample proof that plenty of water is available for all reasonabe purposes and so long as the bylaw is observed to use lawn hose two hours per day we- could withstand any drought season yet on record the council wo understand in tend to maintain the water bylaw- stipulation of two hours use per day of lawn hose hence the news that water is again field day in tho memorial park on wed nesday afternoon july 19th the event was held under the auspices of the park board and proved to be a real success in every way the weather was ideal and the atten dance larger than that of preceding years the sports events attracted a large number of contestants and prizes amounting to 150 were given to the winners ernie bruce and his iind from toronto were on the grounds all afternoon and furnished splendid music refreshment booths provided lunches ice cream and soft drinks and- everyone appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves in the evening a fine concert was held in the community hall which was filled to capacity some failing to gain admission the artists for the concert were ernie bruco and the members of his band assisted by mr smith and a friend of toronto who contributed guitar selections of hawaiin music after the concert those desiring to do so remained to dance tho total receipts amounted to about 450 and as expenses were kept at a minimum the board has reason to bo well pleased with tho results of its efforts all prizes awarded for sports were donated by local citizens and interested friends at the regular meeting of stouff ville village council held ou tues day evening the tax rate for 1933 was struck at 35 mills on the dollar which is a reduction from the 1932 rate of one mill a bylaw was also completed appointing ludwig lownsborough tax collector at a salary ot 100 for collecting the 1933 levy along with the 2000 tax arrears now out standing the collector will start to work at once on rounding up the unpaid taxes from 1932 while the first instalment of the 1933 levy will become payable on sept 1st councillor weldon introduced the bylaw to strike tho tax rate and councillor rusnell introduced the bylaw to july 15th 1933 in tho person of william brethour in his 76th year after an illness of nearly a year from heart trouble the funeral took place on monday july 17th 1933 to st johns cemetery brock services being conducted by rev mr patterson of sunderland assisted by mr pegler of sunderland and rov mr howard ot cannington the late william brethour was born in brock township a son ot tho late henry and phoebe brethour and married miss sophia thompson they farmed for some years near stouffville and later in brock after which he carried on the store at vallentyno for somo years and fif teen years ago he wont on the road as a traveller for james lumbers co ot toronto which he continu ed for several years the deceased took an active part in tho municipal lite ot the town ship and served as
