history for it was the occasion of the dedication of the half acre of new cemetery grounds lying to the north of the old cemetery plots and the official opening of hie steciillougli memorial gates the dedication service took place at 3 oclock in charge of rev a harden united church pastor the address of the day was given by rev john bushel rector of mt clemens church toronto before the close of the service rev j r baldwin baptist pastor at uxbridge and goodwood gave a brief history of the cemetery grounds which proved very interesting to the assembled people at the conclusion of service most of the people hurried homo and those who had the evening chores to perform got throught promptly and returned for the supper in the community park given by ladies of the goodwood institute a tine large tent was erected on the grounds for the occasion and a supper was serv ed which went to show that the iadies of the present decade havent forgoten any of the fine points of the culinary art of which their fore bears were so proud tha day was concluded with a splendid concert provided by pleas ing entertainers and including a playlet entitled the managers the caste included jean slackwm iiow- lltt and arthur harden the pastor 1020 ford trick for sale with rack good running order mrs aisop ph s702 27 a double tragedy which occurred at the bathing beach at port bur- well on thursday of last week when rev a g warder former slennonite pastor of stouffville and miss olive mitchell both lost their lives in a mysterious way came as a terrible shock to the many friends of the warder family mr warder with olive mitchell and his two young daughters elvera and hazel were bathing prior to the evening gathering of the 17th annual tent meeting of the bible conference it was just about six oclock end tiie two warder girls left the water to dress and get supper ready while still in the dressing room tlte mitchell girl was heard to scream and the two girls rushed out to see what was up realizing that the girl in the water was in danger of drowning and unable to see their father they rushed to a nearby camper for help their screams attracted mr and mrs h pearce who rushed out their boat and recovered tlte body of the girl floating on the surface with life extinct efforts to find the body of mr warder were unsuccessful until two hours later when it floated to shore a short distance from the camp as no one witnessed tlte actual tragedy just how tiie two people lost their lives will always remain a mystery it is believed however that they did not drown but that the girl saw mr warder in difficulties screamed and fainted iter hear giving out right then mr warder had been swimming about and it is thought his heart suddenly gave out so that ho went under in view of tlia girl this supposition is borne out by the fact that his heart was not strong and by the further evidence tiiat no water was found in the lungs ot either victim miss mitchell went to port bur- well to visit the warder family and could only swim a short distance while the preacher was a fairly strong swimmer rev a g warder was pastor of the mennonlte church at aylmer where lie was most successful in the work and was president of- the ministerial association of the town he was 45 years of age oliver mitchell who went over from aylmer was only 10 years of age and a loveable girl the both funerals were held from aylmer rev s goudie of stouffville was summoned on the night of the tragedy and rushed to the scene to assist the bereaved wife and children in their trouble lie conducted the funeral service which was partici pated in by all the ministers of aylmer while hie body was taken to lions head for burial a strange coincident in connection with the grief which has overcome mrs warder is the fact that when she was a small girl her father grandfather and an uncle were all drowned in michigan while on a fishing trip dr d c smith is spending i week it wooilville mr ueorge kiloh of the east end is
