world and his wife at any rate the stouffville world that could find either standing or seating accommodation were present in rai- clifts hall on friday evening las when the above society gave a con ceit whteh for sustained interest has not been approached in many moons despite the fact that a young bliz zard was blowing and that the glass was hovering around zero the spa cious hall was crowds 10 minutes before the choir took their places and with about 100 on the platform and the floor filled to capacity it sight to gladden vac promoters of the entertainment was to be seen not only did the evening reveal the fact that stouffville possesses a wealth of musical talent but it would also seem that there was no lack of a musicloving public on a modest estimate there must have been from 500 to 600 people in hie hall and we venture to aflirm that one and all were more than satisfied with the billoffare presented and the man ner in which it was carried through tho womens institute through whose influence and initiative the choral society was commenced are to be congratulated on their enter prise the more so as the training the members of the choral society have received will leave results that vii be permanent punctually at s oclock the con ductor mr h m fletcher mounted the rostrum and for the next two hours the audience were regaled with numbers gay and grave both vocal and instrumental mr fletcher is to be congratulated on the highly efficient degree to which he had trained his choir au of whom re sponded to his leadership in a most praiseworthy manner the first selection holy art thou a largo by handel was given in faultless measure and was a guaran tee of what was to come perhaps the number that most nearly ap proached the first in quality of style and effectiveness was the last when airs miriam g anderson the capable soprano soloist rendered the air in rossinos infmmmatus and the full choir were heard in splendid volumn in the chorus men tion should be made of the final se lection of the evening the singing of the national anthem the music of which was that used by the mendels sohn choiir in the massey hall con cert last week mrs mg anderson very efficient ly sustained the parts assigned to her her rioh soprano voice was heard to excellent advantage in all her numbers miss vida lee gave fruitless renderings of several piano forte solos while mr noah stouffer on the cornet accompanied by his daughter mrs levi forsyth on the piano gave abundant evidence that ihe is not a back number yet the pianoforte duet of the misses anne lehman and eva hoover was ren dered with zest and effectiveness while the accompaniments on the organ and piano by miss s middle- ton and miss a lehman contributed effectively to the success of the pro gramme it is to be hoped that the success that attended the first public appear ance of the choir will be an encour agement to them for furthor efforts in the future and that in the ohoirs and places whore they sing the members of the society will continue to give practicall evidence that music hath charms to soothe the savage breast bouquets of roses were presented to mrs anderson miss lee
