injured in pulling muk truck out of mud a rather peculiar case came before the council at its regular november meeting at unlonvulle mr russell forster of locust hill asked com pensation for a horse a registered clydesdale mare mr forsters story was and his statement was corro borated by the road foreman david i graham that he was working on the road with his team on april 22 last on the 10th- con at riggfoot when a heavy milk truck of the oak- vale dairy got stuck in the mud on the side of the road mr graham suggested that one of the teamsters working on the road might pull him out and he having the heaviest team volunteered to do so in pull- jng the truck the mare injured her self so badly that he has not been able to work her since and accord ing to his veterinary she may never ecoverxhe wanted to known if he is not entitled to compensation the mare about 8 years old was worth easily 225 and hedid not feel that he should suffer the loss the reeve informed him tnat the case was unique the council carried an insurance in the globe indemnity co but ctori if the policy covered his case they should have been noti fied at the time but on the other hand the mare was not injured while doing work for the township but in pulling the oakvale dairy truck out of the mud in doing an act of kind ness he advised mr forster to put in his claim to the globe indemnity co who would probably investigate but he had not much hopes of the claim being recognised as against the company mr john young was heard com plaining that the work done on side road in front of his farm between the 5th and 6th concessions was not satisfactory the road was too wide he said and the crown of the road too far from the ditch and the consequence was it was now a bog this summer made it worse the reeve said he was sorry the road was in bad shape but if mr young would stop and consider he thought he would agree with him that the weather had been such the last two months that it had destroy ed many roads and much labor had been wasted the counciljif the weather permitted would get some broken stone and put the road in better shape but there was only so much money to spend without fur ther increasing the tax rate and there were many roads crying- for repairs on account largely of the in cessant heavy rains deputy camp bell pointed out that the government engineer insisted that all roads be made a certain width else the gov ernment withheld their grant and this was the reason the road was widened a grant of 15 was made to the junior farmers association for their plowing
