carrier for r r 2 markham presented a bjll for repairs to his car through accident to auto caused by bad roads on the 7th south of scotts the repairs cost around 4845 allowed 3000 mt c hoover was heard asking ior gravelling between whitchurch townline on the 3rd along lot 34 and north half of lot 33 the road bed hill at lot 31 was vshaped and all shot to pieces there should be a culvert placed on the 3rd about 30 or 40 feet south of townline geo robb was heard asking coun cil to complete gravelling the sth there was about one half mile to do yet the sth was without doubt the most heavily travelled road in the township outside the county highways resolutions were passed to pay- each deputy returning officer 5 and 10c per mile mileage each way each poll telerk 2 and for each poll ing booth 3 and to the returning officer 10 for delivering ballot boxes at the several polling booths the following road accounts were passed after a good deal of discus sion councillor clarry objected to paying any of them he took the ground that much of this work was done after the meeting on the loth december and some of it after the elections were held which he declar ed to be illegal the commissioners who ordered this work done should be made to pay for it themselves the rest of the council while they considered that some of the commis sioners had acted in a rather high handed manner in doing the work said that the men who did the work had acted in good faith and were entitled to their pay and the resolu tion was passed for the treasurer to pay the same mr clarry voting nay these
