ister rev mr dyer mat risebrough has purchased the house and iot at present occupied by ah parks and intends to take up his residence here very soon a nomination meeting was held at sharon last week to nominate a reeve to fill the vacancy caused through the death of the late reeve mr john smith mr john moore grain and seed merchant of this village and formerly a reeve of this township was elected to fill out the term annual gathering at sharon the york pioneers construct the hydro lines along the i s main street a special meeting of 7 the council was called on monday i evening to discuss the problem with i the local independent telephone co j as matters stand it would be un safe although they claim the right to string a hih power electric line alongthe main street on the same side of the road as the telephone wires are on and for this reason an attempt was made to have both the belland independent co occupy the north side and the hydro the south side at the present time telephone lines are on both sides the independent company was re presented by messrs a d bruce j h ratcliff bert miller and drsang- ster air bruce explained that the two companies could agree to occupy the north side and the bell co en gineer had prepared an estimate of the cost of making the change which would be carried out by the inde pendent co and the town this estimate for reconstructing the line from obrien avenue to the cen tral office crossing the street from shaws store corner underground to the main office wfes estimated at 676 while the line from church street to the 10th concession of markham would cost 239790 the total estimate is therefore 3074 to offset this estimate tlie hydro would secure the poles vacated on the south side most jf which could be utilized mr bruce admitted that the figures appeared- high but urged the council to save the hydro engineer check them and see where a saving could he effected reeve morden stated that if the town was expected to pay any siim like 3074 the proposition might be dropped at once he thought the municipality would not entertain paying more than half that amount to clear thestreet for high power elecetric lines it was agreed to submit the esti mates to the hydro engineer and if he fails to come to an agreement as to the proper amount the town should reimburse the telephone co then the hydro high power lines may be run along the back streets and over private property to the rear with only a low tension line on main street for lighting purposes all parties were agreed however that the finest job would be made by clearing one side of main street and allowing the hydro a right of way without endangering the lives of parties working on the telehone lines or using the service so soon as this matter is settled active work on the hydro construc tion will commence i of the late b burkitt is offered for i help and kit apply to mrs burkitt stouff- at death of r luring illness and usband and father tires are selling fast
