imis sclec by lm clerk not having beea too regular at our attendance at executive or tegular meetings were not aware that the new open nights had started so it was quite a start when we walked in last saturday pjn and found the legion hall jam packed with members and their wives everyone seemed to be having a good tune and it looks like it might develop into arfairly successful idea last tuesday nights party with jimmy millmsn was gotid one but its unfortunate that more did not turn oul we certainly must congratulate en tertainment chairman jim mur phy for his great efforts in ar ranging this a week tonight sees gob collier hosting a party for the kiddies with old santa being present to give asserted gifts to all gob has worked ex tremely hard on this and it is expected it will be the biggest one yet so dont forget kids be on hand the legion audi torium thursday dec 17lh with new years day falling on i fndiy this year the an nual party will be held on new years eve athursdav evening and plans are going forward to arrange this looked for event an orchestra has been hired and a big time promises for all with the old year almost kapul it will ioon be time tor our election and wc wonder what it will bring the legion has had at least fifteen years of steady growth and expan sion and with the exception of the past year the membership growth has been steady it is our thought that while wc are quite aware that we carry a heavy debt load with the real estate we purchased that in spite of this we have no where near fulfilled our obligations to making this a better community to live in with the approach jn the ter near future of a can vass of the town for a hospital we can see no reason wh the branch should not play a vital role in this certainly if the legion does not do so et will be to the hranch s everlasting shame and just before some one ay that we can t approach the public as other service clubs do mav we say that is entirely correct and indeed there is no reason why we should as long as wc are operating a lucrative business as we do at present while wc do not suggest that the branch bankrupt luclf by an means it is our thought that we could possiblv allocate a sizeable chunk to be raised over three to five ears and do it without any hardship at ill to the branch or the mem bcrs think it over comrades it s a wonderful cause it s badh needed and your com mumiy your children and indeed your childrens children will be eternally grateful for having helped establish some thing as vitally necessary as a hospital in our community too long have we pussyfooted ar ound plans for this while every other organixation in town has gone ahead with plans the service clubs lodges clubs etc have all made pledges and are busy planning their money rais ing schemes and still we sit and sit and sit if we hope to nave the slighest standing in this community or district we think its time we got off our respective tails and got crack ingl ana to lighter vein last week we had a phone call here at the office from whom we can only say was one of the nic est voices these tired old ears have heard in a long time and although she preferred to re main anonymous she gave us a tip that leads to quite a news story it seems that theres a new entertainment trio in our town specialising in hawaiian dances complete with costumes and makeup it seems they had a dry run a few weeks ago saturday night and their professional debut takes place friday december 11th in the auditorium of the legion enter taining a local industrys xmas party if interested anyone can book them by phoning their manager harry howard tr 746s8 or contacting him direct the perform under the profes sional name of the hulaettcs and are comprised of three dancers lince walsh and reid their motto exotic dances per formed anywhere anytime any how just the acl lo liven up your christmas party folks we know this is a stinker of a trick on the treasurer we wonder how many members realize that they are entitled to drop in on new years day at the legion for a free repeat free drink of their particular beverage this is an ancient tradition of branch 120 and one that never seems to get a great deal of publicity natur ally during our term as pres ident we didn t exactly push the custom nor has our suc cessor but just to add a little extra joy lo the new year we would like to see all four hun dredodd members take advan tage of it never mind mr treasurer it probablv won t cost over a hundred books provincial bowlers still lead league provincial papers lead over the
