president- roy lyons of cheltenham welcomed the guests he paposed a toast to the dan which was responded to by james mckane of inrlewood the rmf- port of the last reunion in 1956 was read by the secretary mrs tfyands thompson and the list of births marriages and deaths read there were fifty births twenty- two marriages and eleven deaths reported at this time all bowed heads for one tnniute silence in memory of these departed gifts were presented to the old est lady present miss elizabeth clark of norval the oldest gent leman thomas h lyons who rec ently celebrated his 89th bithday the most recently married couple mr and mrs eric mosley of toron to the person coming the farth est miss helen devereaux of mon treal and the youngest member present went to steven mccutch- eon of milton mrs starret leslie spoke a lew words of appreciation to mrs francis thompson for her work as secretary of the clan and of compiling the new book of the members of the clan which was on sale and op georgetown there appears to be some misunderstanding concerning the swimming pool and so the following points are presented for your information 1 the pool was built with fundsraised by donation and public subscription 2 the pool cost somewhat over 50000 z 3 the fund raising was spearheaded by the lions club 4 the construction was taken care of by a committee of lions 5 ihe pool wasdonated teethe corporation of george town for technical reasons 6 the corporation asked the lions to continue operating the pool 7 it was understood that thtpool would be self support ing there is no municipal tax 8 the only source of revenue for the operation of the pool is from entrance fees i 9 ah administration is done by volunteers 1 0 there are two permanent employees the operator- manager and the chief guard and instructor 11 all other employees are hourly paid these are in structors guards checkers 12 the lions ctub finance all capital expenditures 13 the lions club guarantee annual operating losses 1 4 the accounts are audited by the corporation of 5eor- getown 15 the pool pays the red cross for all advertising for water safety 16 the poolpurchases all recomrnetded safety equipment 1 7 swimming instruction is theesponsibility of the chief guard and instructor 18 no organization contributes financially to the swimming classes 19 all guards and instructors are qualified 20 there are always at least two guards on duty 21 most of the guards are students and the pool cannot open until the end of the school year 22 the fhtration plant under the dressing room cgst 17000 being extended w our oakville subdivision this con jecture did not take into account the existing rati links between georgetown and burlington and between stratford and london in cooperation with the plan ning authorities of toronto town ship we reexamined the alternative routes this examination has con firmed that the upgrading of our existing facilities to main line standards is the most practical and economical solution mr kyle said we are convinced that the in telligent solution to the problem of railway congestion in metropol itan toronto and over the hamil ton oshawa routes is the furniture man active church worker a well knovn resident of dur ham since 1900 and brother of mrs mrs f r watson 37 edith st and mrs clarence furlong windsor william atyert glass died friday morning july 3rd in the durham memorial hospital where he had been a patient for the past three months he was in his 80th year born in goderich he was the son of the late immd mrs james glass on moving to durham he was employed by the durham fur niture company with which he ser ved until his retirement in 1952 in 1913 he married bertha spar ling who predeceased him in 1945 mr glass was a member of the queen street methodist church until- 1936 when that church am algamated with knox united church in qurham he served as a church elder for40 years be sides being on the session he was a sunday school teacher and presi dent of the bible school in durham for many years mr glass is survived by two daughters gertrude mrs j a mcgregor of london and bertha mrs gilbert trafford of glenelg township and two sons george and norman both of durham eleven grandchildren also sur vive funeral service was held from te kress funeral home on mon day july 6tb at 2 pm with rev aa c kell officiating a favorite
